Best Week 4 Fantasy Football WR/RB Waiver Adds: De'Von Achane, Elijah Mitchell, Joshua Palmer, Tank Dell
We finished our third football Sunday, and now it's time to hit the waiver wire. With Week 3 nearly over, we are really starting to see things take shape around the league. Here, I am going to focus on the best running backs and wide receivers that may be available in your league.
Running Backs
De'Von Achane is a Must Add Player Week 4 Waivers
Achane went absolutely nuclear in the Miami Dolphins' Week 3 throttling of the Broncos. The rookie scored four of the team's 10 TDs piling up 203 yards on the ground and catching all four of his targets for 20 yards through the air. With Salvon Ahmed sidelined with a groin injury, he got his opportunity and he ran with it, and ran with it, and ran some more with it. This is one of the most impressive fantasy outings we've ever seen by a running back let alone a rookie getting his first real shot at playing time. Prior to this game, he had one career carry and one reception for nine total yards. Now every fantasy owner knows his name.
Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints
Miller was eased into his NFL career this week and will see a larger role moving forward. Even with Alvin Kamara returning from his three-game suspension this week Miller should have plenty of value for at least three more weeks. Jamaal Williams is on IR for at least three more games. Once he returns things could get dicey, however, Miller will also have the opportunity to seize the RB1b job next Kamara. He was our second-ranked running back in this rookie class and Williams didn't light it up with the backfield to himself to start the season.
Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers
Mitchell got some run this week getting 11 carries and three receptions. He is the clear RB2 in this offense and has a ton of upside. With Christian McCaffrey's injury history and the issues the 49ers' running backs have had staying healthy, Mitchell is one of the most valuable handcuffs in the league. If there is a chance he continues to see in the area of 12-15 touches per week, he needs to be stashed in most leagues.
Rico Dowdle, Dallas Cowboys
Dowdle saw seven touches and scored a TD this week. The Cowboys have struggled mightily in the red zone this season after being so efficient for years and the most obvious difference is the absence of Ezekiel Elliott. Dowdle looks to be the man who can fill that big-back role. We expect to see him get more usage in the red zone moving forward. Changes have to be made on the Dallas offense after a brutal Week 3 loss, and this is an obvious fix.
Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears
Khalil Herbert is slowly but surely losing his grasp on the starting job in Chicago. Johnson saw more opportunities than Herbert this week 10-to-9. Herbert only outsnapped Johnson 55% to 45% in Week 3. This is already a split backfield and the pendulum could very well swing in Johnson's favor as soon as this week. He needs to be stashed on your bench.
Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans
For the second time in three weeks, Spears out-snapped Derrick Henry. This week Spears played 56% of the snaps to Henry's 38% and saw eight touches to Henry's 11. Neither man was productive, but there is something going on with Henry. It's unclear whether that's health or physical decline, but Spears needs to be rostered because he is on the field too much to be ignored.
Wide Receivers
Joshua Palmer, Los Angeles Chargers
Mike Williams went down with a torn ACL this past week and will miss the rest of the 2023 season. Palmer is now the second-best receiver on the team and their second-most valuable pass-catcher. He will be very fantasy-relevant and should be rostered in every fantasy league.
Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers
Palmer is currently the WR2 in Los Angeles, however, Johnston is the more obvious replacement for Williams based on physical build and skill set. He's not there quite yet, but the rookie could develop into that role and surpass Palmer at some point this season. He was a first-round pick this year and was one of the most talented wideouts in the draft.
Tank Dell, Houston Texans
Dell continues to produce. We heard how good he looked all summer and it's carried over into the season. He led all Texans' pass-catchers in targets, receptions, yards, and TDs this week finishing the game with a line of 5-145-1 on seven targets including a 68-yard reception. It's looking more and more like he'll be another breakout rookie wideout.
Marvin Mims, Denver Broncos
Despite the return of Jerry Jeudy, Mims continues to produce. As bad as the Broncos have been, Russell Wilson is actually seventh in the league in passing with 791 yards. Over the past two weeks, Mims has posted 186 yards and a TD. His targets jumped up to five this week and he's also seen three carries over the past two games. We aren't ready to plug him in our starting lineups yet, but we want him on our bench.
