Week 6 Fantasy Football RB and WR Droppables: Should you drop Zack Moss and Kenneth Gainwell?

We're always looking to make moves in fantasy football, and this is going to be a weekly spot where we look at some of the most widely-dropped players across fantasy leagues and decide whether you should (or shouldn’t) cut bait with them – due to either underperformance, injury, or otherwise.

We covered waiver adds already, but in order to pick up someone, you have to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.

So let’s take a look at some of the most dropped running backs and wide receivers for Week 6 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy.

As always, check out the fantasy assistant for personalized waiver wire recommendations and team analysis. Make moves based on projections, strengths and weaknesses, waiver alerts, and lots more.

Week 6 Fantasy Football Droppables

Zack Moss, RB, Indianapolis Colts

So now that Jonathan Taylor is back, we can drop Zack Moss, right? Not so fast, my friends. Moss touched the ball 25 times last week and put up 195 total yards and two touchdowns against the Titans. While I think it's safe to say we won't see that type of production from Moss again as Taylor gets further phased in, I don't think we can cut bait with Moss just yet. He's been a great fantasy option to start the season and it looks like he'll continue to have fantasy value as more than simply Taylor insurance. Unless he completely falls off over the next couple of weeks, we have to hold onto Zack Moss.

Verdict: Hold

Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Philadelphia Eagles

Gainwell picked up a lot of steam as a sleeper pick in late-August drafts, and it looked like he was on his way toward fulfilling that hype in Week 1 with 18 touches against the Patriots. He's fallen off since, however, and hasn't seen more than eight touches in either of his last two games as D'Andre Swift has taken over in the Eagles backfield. Gainwell still holds value in deeper fantasy leagues, but I think he can be dropped in shallower fantasy leagues if you're looking to pick up someone with a higher upside.

Verdict: Drop

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seattle Seahawks

I'm tempted to say that JSN can be dropped, but I have a hard time just cutting the top selected receiver in the most recent draft -- especially since he has so much upside. The former Ohio State star has only seen an average of five targets per game as he's operated as Seattle's third receiving option and has yet to find the end zone in his four-game NFL career. While I get the temptation to move on, the season is still young and he's a Tyler Lockett or D.K. Metcalf injury away from being a potential fantasy monster. Hang onto Smith-Njigba for now.

Verdict: Hold

Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Baltimore Ravens

I hate to move on from a guy after he just returned from injury, but I just don't see how Beckham gets on the fantasy radar to a point where we'd feel comfortable starting him. While he's seemingly healthy after missing two weeks with an ankle injury, Beckham has yet to see more than four targets in any of his three games this season. He also hasn't caught more than three balls in a game all year, and his season-high for receiving yards in a game is 37. That's just not going to cut it. We may see a game or two where we regret doing so, but I think we can safely move on from OBJ in all but the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Verdict: Drop

Darnell Mooney, WR, Chicago Bears

Mooney was one of my favorite preason sleepers, but I've got a little egg on my face here. He just hasn't panned out like I thought he would and has only seen 16 targets all season. After a promising Week 1 where he caught four balls for 53 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, Mooney has caught just four passes for 51 yards on nine targets since. He's easily the third option at best in the Bears passing tree so Mooney looks to be a boom-or-bust play with the more likely potential of busting from week to week. I think we can safely move on here.

Verdict: Drop
