Week 13 Running Back Start/Sit: Zack Moss, Najee Harris, Devin Singletary, Breece Hall and More
Week 13 is here and it's time to make the tough decisions. These are the running backs you must start and the ones you have to sit this week.
Week 13 Running Backs
Start
Zack Moss, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts announced on Tuesday that Jonathan Taylor had injured his thumb in Week 12 and will require surgery to repair it. This will keep him out for at least 2-3 weeks. Moss was an absolute fantasy monster early in the season while Taylor was waiting to be activated from his "ankle injury." In those four games as the feature back, Moss saw 89 carries for 345 yards, and three TDs while adding eight receptions for 72 yards, and a TD through the air. He continued to play well even after JT returned up until about three weeks ago when his snaps and touches were severely cut. Now with JT once again sidelined, there is no reason to believe Moss won't go right back to his league-winning ways.
Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers
Everyone has been down on Harris this season and rightfully so, to the point that Jaylen Warren is now generally ranked ahead of him in most fantasy rankings. Also fair. However, there will be enough fantasy points to go around in this one against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have now allowed the second-most fantasy points to running backs this season. Their rush defense is getting worse and worse as the season goes on and they continue to slide down the defensive rankings. Both Warren and Harris should be started against this defense this week.
Devin Singletary, Houston Texans
With Dameon Pierce back, this backfield is once again a mess. Last week, Singletary saw six carries while Pierce saw five carries and neither guy was able to hit the 20-yard mark. However, this week they play the Denver Broncos, who have given up more fantasy points to running backs than any team in the league. Singletary also saw seven targets that he turned into six receptions for 54 yards while Pierce only saw one target. It's worth plugging in Singletary in this matchup for the upside if he has a nice PPR floor he can fall back on in a worst-case scenario.
De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins
This is going to be a thing until he returns, a weekly reminder to start Achane once he is active. Just like we told you with Kyren Williams last week, don't play the wait-and-see game. Once he is in the Dolphins' lineup, he should also be in yours. We saw when he returned two weeks back that Miami wanted to use him as the primary rusher before he re-aggravated his knee injury. There is no reason to believe anything has changed due to what's being reported as a minor knee sprain. Once he's active, you plug him right into your lineup.
Sit
Breece Hall, New York Jets
Hall is one of the most talented running backs in the league. Unfortunately, he's stuck on the Jets in an offense with no quarterback and a putrid offensive line. His ceiling is his PPR value. Last week he carried the ball seven times for 25 yards and caught seven passes for 24 yards. That's pretty much all he has to offer at this point and his matchup this week is brutal against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta is allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season and is yet to allow a rushing TD to a running back. Hall's 3.6 yards per carry last week was his best since October 8 which was also the last time he rushed for more than 50 yards in a game.
Zach Charbonnet, Seattle Seahawks
It's looking like Kenneth Walker is going to be sidelined again this week for Thursday Night Football. This will leave the rookie as the RB1 in Seattle again this week. He was mediocre last week as the starter against the 49ers and expect much of the same this week against the Cowboys. Dallas is allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season and we don't believe Charbonnet is good enough to overcome this defense. Leave him on the bench if you don't want to be staring at a low score from Thursday until Sunday.
Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers
Hubbard has become a matchup start and you do not want to start him in this matchup. The Tampa Buccaneers are allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season. while their pass defense has fallen apart that hasn't been the case against running backs. To make matters worse, Miles Sanders has worked his way back into a near 50/50 split with Hubbard in the Panthers' backfield despite continuing to be significantly worse. This backfield is a disaster, this offense is a disaster, and this matchup is terrible. Avoid Hubbard this week.
