Week 17 Fantasy Football Droppables
AJ Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers
The idea of AJ Dillon is honestly better than the reallity. Even when Aaron Jones has missed time, Dillon hasn't put up more than 13 fantasy points in a game all season. And now Aaron Jones is back. Dillon has fallen off as of late and hasn't put up double-digit fantasy points since Week 12, and even worse, has seen his touches declining. He only touched the ball seven times in Week 16, and while saved his week with a touchdown, he still only put up seven fantasy points. Dillon could be a solid fantasy asset next year if Jones leaves for another team, but he can safely be dropped right now.
Verdict: Drop
De'Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins
Speaking of next year, that's the year for Achane because 2023 is a wash for him. Raheem Mostert owns the Dolphins backfield for now, and Achane is nothing more than a promising fantasy player for 2024 and beyond. He only touched the ball 12 times two weeks ago and eight times last week. That's just way too low usage for the fantasy playoffs, and you're playing with fire if you try to get cute with an Achane start. You can safely drop him to waivers at this point.
Verdict: Drop
Leonard Fournette, RB, Buffalo Bills
I get it. It was tempting to pickup playoff Lenny. However, he only saw five carries against the Chargers. He may push double-digit touches in Week 17, but Fournette shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy roster.
Verdict: Drop
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Tennessee Titans
Hopkins has had some monster games this season, but the wheels have fallen off lately. While he's seen 13 total targets over his last two games, the lackluster quarterback play for the Titans has affected him a lot and he's only caught four of those targets for 41 total yards. That's just not going to cut it for the fantasy playoffs. If this was any other week, I'd say to hang onto him and see where this goes. But we're in a one-and-done situation and don't have the luxury of time. With Ryan Tannehill likely under center again against the Texans this week, Hopkins will again be held back and is way too risky for the fantasy playoffs. He can safely be dropped to waivers.
Verdict: Drop
Jakobi Meyers, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
Could Meyers put up a huge game this week? Maybe. He's put up some really good games this season. But most of them came with Jimmy Garoppolo under center, and he's only caught five total balls over the past two weeks. While he's still seeing 4-6 targets a game, that's just not enough. And the Raiders aren't throwing the ball a ton witih rookie Aiden O'Connell serving as more of a game manager. Meyers can safely be dropped to waivers.
Verdict: Drop
Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
We all thought Johnston would take a jump with Mike Williams out for the year, but that just didn't really happen, unfortunately. He's only found the end zone twice all year and still isn't getting a ton of usage. The rookie has seen just eight total targets over his last two games and has only caught four total passes during that span. He hasn't caught more than three balls in a game since Week 13 and isn't nearly safe enough of a play for the fantasy playoffs. Maybe next year, Mr. Johnson.
Verdict: Drop
