49ers vs. Chiefs (+2) O/U 47.5
Morgan: The 49ers have been the better team most of the season, but the Chiefs have come through and looked better in the postseason. They’ve been here before and just know how to get the job done when the stakes are high. I like the Chiefs to draw on their experience again and win this game 27-24. Patrick Mahomes will lean on Travis Kelce and get some big plays out of Rashee Rice. Isiah Pacheco will enjoy a solid day out of the backfield and the tough Chiefs’ defense will get a couple takeaways along the way. Brock Purdy has delivered when his team has needed him so far this postseason, but this Chiefs’ defense is simply better than he’s faced to this point. I think Christian McCaffrey will score a couple times and have a big day overall to keep San Fran in it, but in the end, the difference at quarterback will swing the game to the Chiefs.
Daniel: Chiefs 23-20. I had the score before I had the team picked; just had to decide who would get that last field goal and/or fail to score at the end. A low-scoring game would make sense, as these teams both sport good defenses, especially Kansas City. If the Chiefs can hold the powerful 49ers’ offense down, Mahomes will have a chance to make magic. I wrote about KC’s pass defense and what we can expect from Purdy, concluding that the Chiefs will have the advantage because they regularly shut down good passing games this season while Purdy struggled against the few top defenses he faced. I see Mahomes leading a late drive to put the Chiefs ahead, and maybe a Purdy interception seals it so that we can spend all offseason talking about whether or not he is good.
Brant: I picked against the Chiefs twice and Mahomes reminded me why he is the best quarterback in the game. If both teams play their best I believe the 49ers are better, but I just don’t see that happening on Sunday. Chiefs 23-17. Mahomes will not let the pressure of the moment get to him and has been in high pressure games so many times before. I don’t think the 49ers can play a full four quarters of solid football which is why I am taking the Chiefs. The 49ers showed last week how hot and cold the team can be and they just cannot afford to do that in the Super Bowl.
Mark: I don’t need a whole paragraph to explain my pick. Like the last two games, I’m going with the Chiefs because they have Mahomes and the 49ers do not. It’s really that simple and what it all comes down to. Kansas City will win 27-17 behind the arm of the best quarterback in the world and a suffocating pass defense.
