Week 4 Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Waiver Adds
Jauan Jennings, San Francisco 49ers (33.5% Rostered)
I can’t not mention Jennings, who is now the Half-PPR WR2 on the season after his massive three-touchdown performance against the Rams. However, I don’t recommend rushing to blow your FAAB on the fourth-year WR.
For one, Jennings is a short-term play. Once Deebo Samuel is back (not to mention George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey), he will no longer have a fantasy-viable role. For another, Jennings is unlikely to provide anything close to his Week 2 performance again, even with Samuel still sidelined. In past seasons, his performances with Deebo out have averaged just 30.4 yards on 2.4 receptions. Jauan can be streamed if Samuel and Co. are still out, but making him a priority waiver add would be the definition of chasing points.
Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers (43.9% Rostered)
I listed Johnston last week, but I have to give him another shoutout coming off another big day; he finished with 44 yards and scored his third touchdown of the season. Admittedly, this week was actually probably bad for Johnston’s short-term outlook. He did lead the Chargers in routes, but he saw just two targets despite Josh Palmer being sidelined. Justin Herbert also exited with an ankle injury and looks likely to miss some time. I still like Johnston as a stash, but he may be more of a long-term stash for now with Herbert likely to miss time.
Xavier Legette, Carolina Panthers (15% Rostered)
Speaking of stashes, things are trending up for the Panthers’ first-round pick. Not only did Andy Dalton provide a massive spark to a previously putrid offense, but Adam Thielen is now set to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury.
Following Thielen’s exit on Sunday, Legette stepped in as the Panthers’ second receiver alongside Diontae Johnson. We know that rookie receivers often come on as the season continues, so snagging Legette, a YAC freak with first-round draft capital, before his breakout comes may be a wise move.
Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals (10.6% Rostered)
If you’re looking for more of a short-term play than a long-term stash, I recommend Michael Wilson. The sophomore out of Stanford has taken a backseat in the Cardinals’ offense with the arrival of Marvin Harrison Jr., but he did catch eight of nine targets on Sunday.
Just as importantly, the Cardinals face the Commanders in Week 4. Pending their Monday Night Football matchup with the Bengals, the Commanders rank ninth in the league in points given up to opposing wide receivers; in 2023, they ranked second. With a fast-paced offense and a below-average secondary, they are an ideal matchup. Especially if Trey McBride is out thanks to the concussion protocol, Wilson looks like an ideal streaming option for Week 4.
Jahan Dotson, Philadelphia Eagles (8.3% Rostered)
Speaking of receivers who could find themselves as streaming options thanks to a concussion to one of their teammates, Jahan Dotson. Dotson was already playing an every-down role for the Eagles with A.J. Brown sidelined, but he is now the team’s de facto WR1 with DeVonta Smith likely to miss time following a brutal hit to the head against the Sants.
This recommendation is not without risk, as Dotson has a history of doing absolutely nothing with abundant snaps. In 2023, he ranked ninth-worst among qualified receivers with a putrid 0.82 yards per route run. Even this week, he managed just two targets on 40 routes. But the Eagles have to throw the ball to someone, and Dotson seems to be the guy they’re trying to make work. In what should be a passing-friendly matchup against the Buccaneers, the former first-round pick has a chance to bounce back.
Jalen Tolbert, Dallas Cowboys (5.2% Rostered)
Tolbert has officially surpassed Brandin Cooks as the Cowboys’ WR2, besting the veteran in routes run in each of the last two games. Across those two weeks, Tolbert has accumulated a solid 13 targets, catching nine of them for 124 yards.
Especially given that the Cowboys’ defense suddenly looks like one of the worst in the league, Dak Prescott should be dropping back early and often going forward. Tolbert should be able to provide flex value in deep leagues as long as he remains the team’s WR2.
