Morgan takes a look at important usage numbers for fantasy football pass catchers coming out of Week 7.

With week 7 in the books, we can now look back on some important usage numbers for wide receivers and tight ends.

Most Targets

Despite only two NFL teams having a bye week, only six players hit double figures for targets.

Tight end Brock Bowers made 10 receptions on 14 targets, going for 93 yards. He’s a must-start fantasy player at this point, regardless of the mess around him on the Raiders’ offense.

Another tight end from a weak offense had 14 targets, Cleveland’s David Njoku. He made 10 grabs for 76 yards and a touchdown. He’s another must-start option, especially at the weak fantasy TE position.

Cleveland’s Cedric Tillman had 12 targets, catching eight for 81 yards. The Browns’ offense is undergoing some major changes, and Tillman could very well turn into a big offensive weapon. He’s a deep league starting option, but I’d probably want to see another decent showing before trusting him in a standard league.

Los Angeles Chargers’ Will Dissly was another tight end with double-digit targets. He turned 11 targets into eight catches and 81 yards. He’s turned in his best games after Hayden Hurst got hurt two games ago, so take Dissly’s performance with a grain of salt. Still, if Hurst is out again in week 8, Dissly might not be a half bad streaming option.

Tampa Bay’s Cade Otton was the final tight end to hit double figures in targets. He had 100 yards on eight catches and 10 targets. He’s been trending up over the past month, and now should be more involved offensively with Chris Godwin and Mike Evans out.

Green Bay’s Romeo Doubs had 10 targets as well, turning eight catches into 94 yards. He’s been good since returning from his team-issued suspension, and is maybe emerging as the No. 1 wideout in Green Bay.

High Snap Totals

Otton and Cleveland’s Jerry Jeudy each logged 80 snaps in week 7.

Otton’s high snap count is another reason to add and play him going forward. He’s on the field nearly every play, and that could lead to some more big-time fantasy outings for him.

Jeudy only turned his 80 snaps into 18 yards on a catch and five targets. He’s fallen out of the standard league picture, but maybe with a new starting quarterback in Cleveland, Jeudy could become a better asset in time.

Las Vegas’ DJ Turner and Tre Tucker each played 75 snaps this week. Much like in the case with Jeudy, it didn’t lead to much production for Turner or Tucker.

Turner had 13 yards on two catches and seven targets, while Tucker had 36 yards on three receptions and eight targets. These are players to keep an eye on, but not good starting options in many leagues right now.

Godwin played 70 snaps in week 7. Not only was he a top-end fantasy wideout this season, but he was on the field pretty much every play. That leaves the door open for Otton and several other pass catchers to step up, especially with Evans out the next few weeks.

Tillman played 69 snaps, showing why he’s a good waiver wire addition outside his big statistical performance.

I’ll now go over some other notable snap counts from wide receivers and tight ends.

New Orleans’ Bub Means played 62 snaps. He had 37 yards on three catches and five targets. With Rashid Shaheed out for the season, Means has a chance to step into a big role for the Saints. Chris Olave will lead the team when he’s back from his concussion, but after Olave, the pass catcher room is lacking proven playmakers.

Chargers’ Simi Fehoko played 61 snaps in week 7. He had 45 yards on three catches and six targets. Fehoko has 10 targets over the past two weeks, so he’s a player to keep tabs on. Hurst and Quentin Johnston missed week 7’s game, so don’t be surprised if Feheko’s snaps and production fall off when the team is at full health.

New York Giants’ Darius Slayton played all 58 offensive snaps in week 7. I was curious to see how things would play out when Malik Nabers returned from his concussion, but it doesn’t look like Slayton will lose his role anytime soon. His fantasy production may fall, but he’s still a decent deep league option while playing all those snaps.

New York Jets’ Garrett Wilson played all 57 offensive snaps this past week. I didn’t think he’d lose a ton of snaps with Davante Adams back, and Wilson appears to still be a good starting option if he’s going to be on the field all the time.

Tyler Johnson and Demarcus Robinson each played 91% of the team’s offensive snaps, while Tutu Atwell was at 78%. I bring them up because Cooper Kupp is expected back soon, as is Puka Nacua. The snap counts for the Rams’ wideouts will be something to watch as the weeks pass, although Kupp and Nacua are likely to be the only good fantasy options when they are full go again.

Brandon Aiyuk was lost for the season due to an injury, and Deebo Samuel Sr. and George Kittle are dealing with ailments, so the backup options on the team are big waiver targets for week 8 and beyond.

Ricky Pearsall led the way after playing 76% of the offensive snaps. His role should only expand as he settles in. Chris Conley played 70% of the snaps, but it didn’t lead to a big statistical day. Ronnie Bell was in for 38% of the snaps, while Jacob Cowing played 19% of the snaps. Don’t forget about Jauan Jennings, who missed week 7 with an injury of his own.

Giants tight end Theo Johnson played 90% of the offensive snaps. It didn’t lead to even a single target, but he’s a name to bookmark, as the production should come if he keeps playing this many snaps.

Keep an Eye On…

With DeAndre Hopkins being traded to the Chiefs, Calvin Ridley and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine are two Tennessee wideouts to keep a close eye on. The team’s quarterback situation makes any pass catcher on that team a shaky fantasy option at best, but one less mouth to feed is likely going to benefit some fantasy player with the Titans.

Amari Cooper steals the headlines in Buffalo after being traded there last week, but maybe his presence will open things up for Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir. Both had solid games in week 7 and could become better fantasy options with Cooper taking on more defensive attention.

Denver’s Courtland Sutton was held without a catch or target in week 7, which meant several other pass catchers from the team led the way. Troy Franklin appears to be a name on the rise, and could still be a decent fantasy asset when Sutton gets going again.

Washington’s Olamide Zaccheaus had six targets for a second straight week. It hasn’t led to much offensive production, but that kind of production is something to track at the very least.

With Detroit’s Jameson Williams being suspended two games, guys like Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond could take on larger roles behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. Raymond caught a touchdown last week, but played 14 less snaps than Patrick, 30-16.

Carolina’s Ja'Tavion Sanders had 61 yards on six catches and targets. He’s barely owned in any fantasy leagues, but with 18 targets over the past three weeks, definitely deserves some fantasy attention now while playing in an offense desperate for playmakers.
