In typical Jim Harbaugh fashion: the Chargers changed the number of 6-foot-4, 296-pound defensive tackle Scott Matlock this past week from No. 99 to No. 44 and now list him as their starting fullback. Matlock is expected to play both ways in Sunday's regular-season opener vs. the Raiders, fullback and defensive tackle. Harbaugh has said that Matlock is in such good condition, he could play a doubleheader if needed.

A heated rivalry game between the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders turned into a full-on melee on Sunday.

It resulted in Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer and current Raiders/former Patriots cornerback Jack Jones being ejected. Fists were flying as players from both teams and the officiating crew desperately tried to break up the on-field altercation.

It was an ugly scene on the football field late in the fourth quarter with the game pretty much in hand for the Chargers.

Jones was waived by the Patriots last season after a multitude of different issues with the team. He was ultimately claimed by the Raiders and reunited with his former high school football coach, Antonio Pierce

It took until the fourth quarter for the Chargers to score their first touchdown of the season, but Los Angeles finally broke through to extend their lead.

JK Dobbins, who in the third quarter took a carry 46 yards but was chased down from behind, took a handoff to the right side from Justin Herbert on the first play of the fourth quarter. Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo had jumped offsides and was trying to get back into position, forcing him to try to tackle Dobbins at an awkward angle with only one arm.

Dobbins powered through that offering and burst through the hole into the end zone, extending Los Angeles’ lead to 16-7. It was the Chargers’ seventh play in the red zone compared to zero for the Raiders through three quarters and change

It’s been an incredible day for the tandem of Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.

In the first half, Mack and Bosa had sacks of Gardner Minshew on back-to-back plays to force a Raiders punt. Minshew then fumbled a ball on an unforced error inside two minutes to go in the first half, which was recovered by Mack and returned 22 yards inside the Raiders’ 15-yard line.

In the third quarter, it was Bosa’s turn to make an impact on the turnover battle. Minshew handed the ball to running back Zamir White on a 1st and 14 play. White burst through the left side of the line and gained ten yards, but Bosa made a tackle pursuing from the backside. He punched at the ball, knocking it free and nearly recovering it himself before the ball careened to the turf

The Chargers are about 90 minutes away from opening up the 2024 regular season against the Raiders.
