A head-to-head clash between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots will take center stage at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
The Patriots are hoping to reverse their fortunes after dropping three straight losses to the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. They’ll have to do so with a banged-up roster against a divisional rival that swept them in the two 2023 meetings.
With that said, the Dolphins are facing their own problems this season with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa still recovering from a concussion. They’ve also lost their last three straight games, and they’ll be entering Week 5 with backup quarterback Tyler Huntley under center
The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots enter Week 5 with the two lowest scoring offenses in the NFL and both teams are riding three-game losing streaks.
With Tua Tagovailoa lost to injured reserve due to a concussion suffered in Week 2, the Dolphins have turned to former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley to lead the way. But in his Miami debut, Huntley struggled to lead the offense down the field and it failed to eclipse 200 yards for the first time in nearly four years.
The Dolphins hope that another week of work, coupled with Terron Armstead, Raheem Mostert, and Odell Beckham Jr. all added into the mix, will yield better results
While this award normally goes to a single Dolphins player, the performances of both Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright stood out enough to deserve the honor.
Miami suffered a huge blow to their offense when De’Von Achane was ruled out with a concussion late in the first quarter. With Jeff Wilson Jr also out of action due to injury, it was up to the veteran Mostert and rookie Wright to pick up the running game for a Dolphins offense that desperately needed it.
Mostert returned to the Dolphins lineup after missing the last three games with a chest injury. He didn’t look limited at all as he carried the ball 19 times in his return for 80 yards. He also caught two passes for 18 yards
The Miami Dolphins’ losing streak is over after they scored 12 unanswered points to erase a second half deficit and get a 15-10 win against the New England Patriots in Week 5.
Disastrous special teams for the Dolphins played a huge role in the Patriots jumping out to an early lead, as a Miami punt was blocked, a field goal went off the upright, and another field goal attempt was erased by a poor snap from Blake Ferguson.
But with the Patriots in front, 10-3, the Dolphins chipped away at the lead with a pair of third quarter field goals. Then in the fourth quarter, the Miami running game finally found some traction and led the way on a 15-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard Alec Ingold touchdown
The Miami Dolphins ruled out seven players for their Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots, including backup quarterback Skylar Thompson and rookie pass rusher Mohamed Kamara.
Earlier in the week, the Dolphins released backup quarterback Tim Boyle, leaving Tyler Huntley and Thompson as the only two passers on the active roster. However, Boyle was added to the Miami practice squad and was elevated for Week 5, meaning the team isn’t without a backup quarterback Sunday.

The New England Patriots will be missing both of their starting safeties in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
On Saturday, the team downgraded Jabrill Peppers as out with a shoulder injury, and on the list of inactives, ahead of kick-off against the Dolphins, Kyle Dugger was ruled out with an ankle injury.
Those two absences push Jaylinn Hawkins and rookie Dell Pettus up the depth chart for New England.
On a more positive note, veteran wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was not on the inactive list. So he’s set to make his 2024 debut
