Joey Cantillo's Ratio Troubles Make Him a Risky Option Ahead of Houston Matchup

Despite a solid five-inning, one-run outing in his last start, Cantillo has struggled recently, posting a 6.79 ERA and 1.84 WHIP over his last 30 days. He continues to hold down a key role as the number two starter in the rotation for the first-place Guardians, who currently lead the AL Central with a 39-35 record.

While his recent stretch has been volatile, our models project a bounce-back to a 3.91 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, closer to his 3.49 ERA mark from last year. The core issue is control, as 12 walks over his last 21.2 innings have spiked his WHIP. If he recaptures his early-season command, he should settle back into a reliable mid-rotation asset.

Cantillo is scheduled for a single road start on Saturday against the Astros, where he will oppose Spencer Arrighetti and his outstanding 2.57 ERA. Given his recent traffic on the basepaths and a depleted Cleveland lineup missing Jose Ramirez, fantasy managers should play it safe. Verdict: Sit.
