Another week of the NBA season has passed, so it’s time to look at some possible waiver wire players to add to your fantasy basketball teams.

This week, we will look at Oklahoma City Thunder’s Luguentz Dort, Charlotte Hornets’ Larry Nance Jr. and Orlando Magic’s Wendell Carter Jr.

Luguentz Dort Fantasy Outlook

Dort has seen his role shrink a touch this season on the young Thunder squad, but he’s still putting up pretty solid numbers. He’s started all 30 games he’s played in and is averaging 28.5 minutes, which is about two minutes less than he played last season.

Dort is averaging 11.1 points (down from 13.7) and 3.9 rebounds (down from 4.6). He’s also averaging 1.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks, while committing 3 fouls and 0.9 turnovers per game.

Dort’s field goal percentage is up over 7% from a season ago, currently sitting at 46.5%. He’s 42.7% on his 3-pointers (up from 33%) and is 81.5% from the free throw line.

The wing is averaging about four shots less per game, but is way more efficient. His scoring alone has at least kept him on the fence of being a fantasy asset.

He’s scored in double figures in half of his games played. Dort has gone over five rebounds on 11 occasions, and hasn’t topped five assists once. He’s got a steal in 14 games and a block in 19.

Verdict: Dort is still getting plenty of minutes and serves a big role for the Thunder, but he’s simply not doing enough on the court to make him a player you should be rostering in standard leagues. If one of the team’s top scorers were to miss extended time, then Dort would make a lot of sense to add. For now though, I’d just keep a close eye on him on the waiver wire.

Larry Nance Jr. Fantasy Outlook

Nance has appeared in just 16 games this season. He’s yet to make a start, and he’s averaging just 16.2 minutes per game.

The veteran is also averaging 4.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 0.8 assists and 0.3 blocks, while committing 1.4 fouls and 1 turnover per contest. He’s shooting a strong 53.8% from the field and is 35.7% from deep. Nance is 66.7% from the line.

Nance missed a handful of games because of an injury, but has logged 25 and 23 minutes in his first two games back. He’s combined for 20 points, 17 rebounds, five steals, three assists and a block in those contests.

For the season, Nance has topped 10 points just once. He’s gone over five boards on seven occasions, while finishing under five assists in each contest. Nance has a steal in six games and a block in three.

Verdict: I can understand why Nance is getting some waiver wire love, and if he continues to produce similar stats the next couple games, that’s when I’d add him to my fantasy team. A two-game sample size is just too small for me to burn a roster spot, especially if you don’t have an open slot. Give it another couple games before adding Nance in standard leagues.

Wendell Carter Jr. Fantasy Outlook

Carter has appeared in just 11 games this season because of an injury. He’s started 10 of those games and is averaging 8.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.3 steals, while committing 2.1 fouls and 1.4 turnovers across 25.1 minutes played.

Carter is shooting 44% from the field, 35.7% from deep and 63.6% from the line. His overall percentage is down nearly 10% from a season ago, but hopefully some more time on the court will help him get back into the swing of things.

In the six games he’s played since returning from the injury, Carter is averaging 7.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2 assists and 0.7 blocks across 21.4 minutes. His shooting percentage is up to 53.3% overall, and his 3-point (41.7) and free throw (75) percentages are both up.

Verdict: Carter went for a season-high 17 points in his most recent game, so I also understand some of the waiver wire love there. His scoring average isn’t great, but he makes up for that with a decent amount of rebounds. I’d personally like to see his minutes closer to what they were earlier in the season before adding him. He’s another guy I’d keep tabs on, and if he can deliver for another contest or two at the same level as the last game, then that’s when I’d add him.
