Week 6 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Geno Smith Continue To Dominate!
Geno Smith is rolling this season, and heading into Week 6 he is one of the best available free agents to claim from waivers. There are also a few receivers and running backs to consider, especially Kenneth Walker III who will be taking over the position for the Seahawks now that Rashaad Penny’s season ended Sunday after he fractured his tibia against the Saints.
Let’s take a look at the best fantasy football free agents to go after on the waiver wire this week.
Quarterbacks
QB Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks (49.56% Owned)
Geno Smith is having a surprisingly great season at QB for the Seahawks. He’s thrown for 1,305 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He hasn’t turned the ball over in the last two weeks and is coming off of a 268 yard and three touchdown game against the Saints on Sunday. This season, Geno has continued to impress and he’s now giving fantasy owners a solid reason to go ahead and give him the nod this week.
QB Zach Wilson, New York Jets (23.24% Owned)
The Jets scored 40 points on the Miami Dolphins in what was an impressive win Sunday afternoon. While Miami was without it’s top quarterback as a result of back to back concussions sustained in Weeks 3 and 4, Teddy Bridgewater got the start for the Dolphins. Unfortunately, he too suffered a concussion in Week 5 which left Miami with only their third-string quarterback for the game. The Jets held the Dolphins to just 17 points scoring which was a pretty impressive showing all around from their D against a strong conference opponent like the Dolphins. While the Jets scoring came from RBs Breece Hall and Michael Carter Jr., Wilson completed 66.7% of his passes for 210 yards. It’s only his second start of the season after having missed weeks 1-3 recovering from a fractured kneecap which he sustained in training camp.
Running Backs
RB Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks (53.55% Owned)
In the Seahawks game Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Saints, starting RB Rashaad Penny sustained a fractured tibia. This will keep him out for the remainder of the season and will give Kenneth Walker this role. The rookie second-rounder formerly out of Wake Forest (2019-2020) and Michigan State (2021) will be the team’s feature running back for the remainder of the season. Walker erupted yesterday for 88 rushing yards and a touchdown.
RB Deon Jackson, Indianapolis Colts (3.24% Owned)
Ahead of Thursday night’s game between the Colts and the Broncos, Jonathan Taylor was ruled out as a result of an ankle injury he sustained the week before. As a result, Nyheim Hines got the start at running back for the Colts but suffered a concussion after just getting one rushing attempt for three yards and one catch for another five. This gave RB Deon Jackson the opportunity to produce as an RB1 for the first time in Indianapolis. He had 13 carries for 62 yards (4.8 AVG) and four receptions for another 29 yards. If you’re really suffering at the RB position, Jackson is a guy you can immediately add to your roster who should produce solid numbers for at least another week.
Wide Receivers
WR Josh Reynolds, Detroit Lions (48.66% Owned)
The Patriots absolutely destroyed the Lions this weekend. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown was held to just four catches for 18 yards in the contest. All season long however, Josh Reynolds has remained a reliable passing option for Jared Geoff. This Sunday, Reynolds was 6-of-10 on targets for 92 yards. He now has 23 catches for 335 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Tight Ends
TE Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (25.35% Owned)
Now it’s time people realize how crucial of a player he is for the Saints and now how valuable he is as a fantasy player. Though listed as a tight end, Hill already has 228 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season. He also passed for 22 yards and another touchdown in 2022. Yesterday, the former BYU quarterback erupted for three total touchdowns and more than 35 FPTS in what was a sensational game for him. He played inspired hard-nose football yesterday and it paid off big for the Saints and fantasy football 0owners alike.
TE Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars (30.04% Owned)
This season, Evan Engram has had what many would call quite the bounce back year. While he hasn’t gotten into the end zone yet this season, Engram has 19 catches for 168 yards (8.8 AVG) through the first five weeks of the regular season. Engram had a very productive game in Week 5. Despite the Jags’ loss to the Texans, Engram had six catches for 69 yards (11.5 AVG).
