Cooper Kupp Injures Ankle, Rams Place Star Wideout On Injured Reserve
The Rams just gave an update on Cooper Kupp’s injury status and it’s not good news for fantasy owners.
The Los Angeles Rams just announced that their star wideout will undergo surgery on his injured ankle, and he will be placed on injured reserve. This will force him to miss at least the next four games which is the remainder of the fantasy regular season in most leagues. The news get’s worse as it’s unlikely he misses just four games. A minor high-ankle sprain can hold a player out for four weeks and this clearly isn’t mild. If you are a Kupp owner you need to be prepared to be without him for the remainder of the season. Anything you get from him again this season should be considered a bonus.
Fantasy Impact Of Cooper Kupp Injury
We will start with the obvious here. This is catastrophic news for Matthew Stafford who has already been a disaster this season. He currently sits as the QB33 in points per game on the season. And yes, there are 32 teams in the NFL. Overall, he is the QB26. Without Kupp he shouldn’t even be started in SuperFlex leagues in a plus matchup. If Stafford is for some reason still on your roster, cut him.
The biggest winner is probably Tyler Higbee. He should slide up to the high-end TE1 range maybe even as high as TE3 with Dallas Goedert sidelined for a while and Zach Ertz out for the year. He’s a guy you should be targeting in trades this week. Buy him now if you can because you won’t be able to soon. With Kupp exiting early last week, Higbee was the clear top target catching all eight of his targets for 73 yards.
Most will point to Allen Robinson as the biggest beneficiary at wideout, but you may want to go grab Ben Skowronek off of waivers. Robinson led all Rams’ wideouts with four catches for 44 yards last week, however, Skowronek led the team with seven targets. We have already seen Stafford and Skowronek have a strong rapport earlier in the season. He may see the biggest boost from this injury.

Robinson will likely retain the role he’s had all season, however, the ball should get spread around more without Kupp sucking up so many targets. Van Jefferson could also see a bit of a boost, but he should be the third option in this receiving corps. There are no other pass-catchers on this team worth a look.
With all that said, don’t go crazy trying to get your hands on any of these guys perhaps with the exception of Higbee. Don’t forget this is a terrible offense and none of these guys are close to as talented as Kupp. He’s not a guy you can just replace with inferior talent and get similar results. Nevertheless, Higbee should be the top target this week on this offense. As for the receivers, Robinson is probably the better standard scoring add and Skowronek may be better in PPR formats. Jefferson is an end-of-the-bench speculative addition at best.
