Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Outlook: Breakdown of the trio of Dak Prescott, Tony Pollard & Ceedee Lamb

Mark Morales-Smith Jul 28th 4:54 PM EDT.

As the season grows near it's time to start looking at each and every team in the league to find all the fantasy value you miss when looking at the league as a whole. We will be taking a look at all the key teams and players around the league. Now we continue with the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys.

Take a look at our ADPs throughout draft Season. Practice on our Mock Draft Simulator and utilize the Draft Genius for Draft Day. Import your fantasy leagues for in-season help.

Dak Prescott is Mid Tier Fantasy QB

Prescott is what he is at this point, a serviceable fantasy option who you can win with but won't win you games. He's currently being drafted as the QB10 which is a bit higher than we'd take him, however, we do consider him right inside the fringe of the QB1 tier. As his offensive line has declined, we've watched injuries pile up and turnovers become an issue for Dak. If he can play a full season he is capable of going for 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns, nevertheless, he's tough to bank on to stay healthy and even tougher to bank on for week-to-week consistency. We have him as our QB12 so he is essentially the worst QB1 you can get, but a QB1 nonetheless.

Handing Over the Reins to Pollard

Tony Pollard was a breakout star last year and finished as an RB1 despite the presence of Ezekiel Elliott and his innate ability to fall forward into the end zone. With Zeke gone this year, the assumption is that Pollard is in line for a monster year with the backfield to himself. While we do believe he can finish as an RB1 because of his talent and efficiency, the increase in volume may not be as huge a jump as many believe it will be. We aren't sure he's built to handle a massive workload and Dallas knows that. He will definitely see more touches, however, we do expect another back to be involved more than fantasy owners would prefer. Malik Davis is projected to be the RB2 with rookie Deuce Vaughn in the conversation as well. His current ADP makes him the RB9 which is right about where he should be.

Is there Value Behind Ceedee Lamb?

We can all agree that Lamb is a surefire WR1. His current ADP has him as the WR6, and we have him as the WR8, but he's right in that range. You can lock him in for 100 catches, 1,300 yards, and in the area of double-digit TDs. He's a safe option and there isn't a ton more to say about him. What we need to look into is the value at wideout behind him. They have Michael Gallup and Brandin Cooks who have been two of the more polarizing fantasy wideouts this season. Cooks is being drafted as the WR42 and Gallup the WR60. However, both are likely cannibalizing the other's value right now and if one were to emerge as the true WR2 that one would greatly outperform their ADP. The guy we want to focus on is Cooks. We have seen him be a star in this league and getting out of Houston may be exactly what he needed. That situation had completely eroded and it is driving down Cooks's value. He has never played 15 games in a season and not hit the 1,000-yard mark and had at least five TDs. We've seen him do it on multiple teams with a bunch of different quarterbacks as well. Still just 29 years old, it stands to reason that with a better quarterback, he could easily give you a strong fantasy season. In a lost season in 2022 with Davis Mills as his quarterback, he still put up 699 yards while missing four games and playing through injuries. He's a sneaky good flex option who could be a stud if Lamb were to miss any time.

Question Marks at Tight End

With Dalton Shultz now with the Texans, the Cowboys' TE room leaves plenty to be desired. There will likely be some value at the position in Dallas because there always is. However, it's not clear who will step up or how good any of the TEs on the roster really are. Jake Ferguson is expected to be the top TE and is being drafted as so as the TE29. He is nothing more than a dart throw this season, but there is a real chance that he provides value based on what we've seen from this offense in the past.

Dallas Cowboys Breakout Player

We are going to go with Davis here. Breakout may be too strong of a word assuming Pollard stays healthy, but we think he will play a significant role in this offense. This backfield will be more of a split-back system than people think it will be and Davis could emerge as a legitimate flex option.

Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Sleeper

We had to dig deep for a sleeper here and decided to go with wide receiver Jalen Tolbert. This is based solely on our scouting from last year. As a rookie in 2022, he did almost nothing, but we liked his talent coming out so we are going to keep an eye on him in 2023. This should be considered a very deep sleeper, but he is too talented to not keep on your radar, especially in dynasty leagues.
