Oblique Injury Halts Hot Streak for Torres

Gleyber Torres was in the midst of a spectacular stretch before injuring himself on a swing on June 15, landing him back on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. Prior to the injury, the primary second baseman was carrying a stellar .313 batting average over his last 14 days. His absence is a significant blow to the fourth-place Tigers (30-44) who continue to navigate a crowded injury report.

The injury halts a massive surge that saw Torres hit .341 over his last 30 days, far outperforming his .259 season projection and recent career baselines. While his recent run-producing pace was likely unsustainable given a modest 14-homer season projection, his elite on-base skills remain highly legit.
