Week 14 Fantasy Football RB and WR Droppables: Should you drop D'Andre Swift, Adam Thielen, and Marquise Brown?
Running back and wide receivers to drop to the waiver wire for Week 14
We're always looking to make moves in fantasy football, and this is going to be a weekly spot where we look at some of the most widely-dropped players across fantasy leagues and decide whether you should (or shouldn’t) cut bait with them – due to either underperformance, injury, or otherwise.
We covered waiver adds already, but in order to pick up someone, you have to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.
Let’s take a look at some of the most widely dropped running backs and wide receivers for Week 14 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy.
As always, check out the fantasy assistant for personalized waiver wire recommendations and team analysis. Make moves based on projections, strengths and weaknesses, waiver alerts, and lots more.
Week 14 Fantasy Football Droppables
D'Andre Swift, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
The question we have to ask ourselves at this point is: can I trust (insert name here) in the fantasy playoffs? In terms of D'Andre Swift, I could argue that either way. He's RB13 on the year so he's obviously been good, but he's also put up single-digit fantasy performances over the last two weeks. And he's now questionable for Week 14. While I think we ultimately have to hold onto him as he still saw 14 carries two weeks ago, he's hanging on by a thread after an eight-touch performance last week. With matchups against the Cowboys and Seahawks on deck, Swift could be on his way to becoming a drop next week.
Verdict: Hold
Devin Singletary, RB, Houston Texans
Singletary had a really nice run while Dameon Pierce was out, but he only saw nine touches last week and is back to being nothing more than a handcuff at this point. He has more receiving ability than Pierce so he could find himself useful if the gamescript dictates it, but Singletary falls in the "we can't trust him in the fantasy playoffs" bucket for now unless Pierce is sidelined again. Thanks for Weeks 10-12, Devin, but we need to move on from you as we position ourselves to make some noise in the fantasy playoffs.
Verdict: Drop
Adam Thielen, WR, Carolina Panthers
Thielen is WR13 on the year, so why the heck is he on this list?! Well, it's the trust thing again. With the Panthers holding the worst record in the league and a new coaching staff in charge, Thielen was out-targeted by rookie Jonathan Mingo last week and has caught just four balls over his last two games. While the targets are still there (he saw six last week), the veteran is far from the must-start player he was earlier in the season. You should hold onto Thielen for now, but he's dangerously close to finding himself cut-able (if that's even a word).
Verdict: Hold
Marquise Brown, WR, Arizona Cardinals
While the 12 targets two weeks ago were nice, the zero catches last week was equally as bad -- if not scarier. Brown has just one game of double-digit fantasy points over his last five and just isn't producing enough to be trusted as anything more than a "let's see how this goes" flex play as we head into the fantasy playoffs. I'm not saying you should out-right drop him just because, but I also don't think we absolutely have to hold onto Brown simply because of his name or draft status at this point. He's also nursing a heel injury heading into Week 14, so that's even more reason to move on if you want to make another pickup who you might actually start and feel good about.
Verdict: Drop
Josh Downs, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Downs has been really good at points during his rookie season, but he's now put up four straight games of single-digital fantasy production. While I'm going to call him a hold for now because he's seen a whopping 18 (!!) targets over his last two games, the production hasn't followed. Downs has just eight catches for 57 yards (total) over his last two games and will be out-targeted by Michael Pittman on a weekly basis. Again, I think he's a player we should hang onto as he provides enough upside, but I think you can cut bait with him in shallower leagues where you're looking to make an impact move.
Verdict: Hold
