Week 16 Fantasy Football QB and TE Droppables: Should you drop Sam Howell, C.J. Stroud, and Kyler Murray?
A look at quarterbacks and tight ends to drop for Week 16
The fantasy playoffs are finally here! And that makes waiver moves even more important than ever as we get into a potential one-and-done situation. But in order to make ads, you need to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.
With our decisions this week, you need to be thinking "will I actually start this guy in the fantasy playoffs?". If the answer is no, then you probably don't need to keep him on your roster.
As we do every week, let’s take a look at some of the most widely dropped quarterbacks and tight ends for Week 16 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy.

Week 16 Fantasy Football Droppables
Sam Howell, Washington Commanders
Howell is a top-10 fantasy quarterback based on stats, but this isn't a year-end award article. Howell went 11-for-26 last week and ended up with just 102 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. I don't want to get stuck on one game, but his next two games are rought. He has to play against the Jets on the road and then against the Browns. Those are two of the worst possible matchups you can get in the fantasy playoffs. And to complicate things more, Howell was benched during the fourth quarter of their loss last week. While it sounds like he'll continue to start in Week 16, Howell is way too risky of a play for the fantasy playoffs and can be safely dropped to waivers.
Verdict: Drop
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
I don't think Murray is a must-drop, but I also wouldn't feel great about starting him in the fantasy playoffs. Murray hasn't topped 211 passing yards in either of his last two games and has only thrown one touchdown in each of those games. While he's been able to add some extra points on the ground, Murray's upside has been limited by his lack of passing stats and his schedule gets worse. With a road matchup against a much-improved Bears defense on deck, Murray is a very risky play for the fantasy playoffs.
Verdict: Drop
C.J. Stroud, QB, Houston Texans
It's been one heck of a season for the about-to-be Offensive Rookie of the Year, but I think it's time to part ways with him unless you can keep him in your IR slot. Stroud is still dealing with a concussion after missing Sunday's game, so it's no sure thing he'll be activated for Week 16. However, even if he is, do you really want to start him against the Browns? I completely understand the argument against just outright dropping him, but you're introducing absolute chaos to your fantasy playoff chances if you start Stroud coming off a concussion against one of the best defenses in the league.
Verdict: Drop
Taysom Hill, TE, New Orleans Saints
While Hill has had some great weeks this season, he's coming off a 1.5 fantasy point game in Week 15 and is just way too unpredictable to slot into your starting lineup this week. Could he go off? Sure. Is he better than some of the other tight end options out there? Maybe. But you're likely looking at something like five touches against the Rams this week, so starting him means that you're banking on a touchdown coming on one of those five touches. That's just not a situation that I willingly want to sign up for. Find a better tight option out there.
Verdict: Drop
Logan Thomas, TE, Washington Commanders
Like Hill, Thomas has had some great weeks this season. But there's not much upside to be had when your quarterback is throwing for 102 yards. He's scored single-digit fantasy points in six straight games and has only seen four total targets in his last two games combined. Worse, he's only caught one ball over his last two games for seven yards, and hasn't found the end zone since Week 8. While Thomas was a fantasy asset at the position earlier in the year, he can safely be dropped to the waiver wire. There are much better (and safer) options for Week 16 -- and hopefully Week 17 if you get there!
Verdict: Drop
