Fantasy Football Tight End ADP Report: Taysom Hill and Ben Sinnott Rise, while T.J. Hockenson and Hunter Henry Fall

Ted takes a look at the biggest movers in fantasy football ADP at the tight end position over the last week.

The NFL season starts next week — it’s so close you can taste it. Many fantasy football leagues have already had their drafts, but many more will draft over the next 10 days. Now is the time when it is most important to be locked into every ADP change. The last thing a fantasy manager wants is to show up to their draft with out-of-date information. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the biggest movers in tight end ADP over the last week.

As always, all ADP data is found using FantasySP’s ADP Tool, which automatically tracks each player’s trend over the last seven days. Let’s get started.

Fantasy Football Tight End ADP Risers

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (-4.73)

Depending on the platform your league is on, Taysom may not even count as a tight end in your league. The Swiss army knife offensive weapon has broken the fantasy football rules for years now. Even putting aside that one glorious week in which he was a starting quarterback you could play in your TE slot, Taysom’s diverse usage has always meant he has tantalizing upside at a position that normally lacks it.

Heading into 2024, the question with Hill was whether new Saints OC Klint Kubiak would continue the experiment started by Sean Payton. If the preseason is any indication, that answer is a resounding yes. And that’s why Taysom is on the rise: His preseason usage featured both some traditional TE routes and a handful of carries out of the backfield. With his playmaking and nose for the end zone, even five carries and a couple of targets a game could be enough to make Hill a TE1 candidate.

Following his rise, Hill is now the TE18 in ADP, and he is absolutely worth a dart throw at that price. Along with his uniquely high upside, there’s another bonus to drafting Taysom compared to any other TE2: We will know right away if he is worth holding.

Hill is more like a running back than a traditional tight end or receiver in that his volume, and therefore fantasy production, is highly dependent on coaching decisions. If he’s not getting at least a few carries per game, he’s not fantasy-relevant. If you don’t draft an elite tight end, Hill is a great candidate to stash on the end of your bench for Week 1. If he sees a substantial role, he could immediately be a TE1. If not, you can safely cut him, making him a great low-risk, high-upside pick.

Ben Sinnott, Washington Commanders (-2.69)

This is ironic, as Sinnott is coming off two straight weeks as one of the biggest fallers at the TE position. Even with this solid rise, he is still being drafted 40 spots later than his peak ADP. However, it does make sense why Sinnott is bouncing back. The trade of Jahan Dotson means that the Commanders’ target tree after Terry McLaurin is just one big question mark. Who better to fill that gap than a hyperathletic 22-year-old TE?

Unfortunately, even with Dotson’s departure, Sinnott is overpriced. Dotson was not the biggest roadblock in his path to fantasy relevance; that honor goes to his fellow tight ends, Zach Ertz and John Bates. If preseason usage is to be trusted, Sinnott is the Commanders’ TE3. That may change at some point this season, but he is absolutely not worth rostering until it does.

Fantasy Football Tight End ADP Fallers

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots (+5.25)

Henry is, by far, the biggest faller of the last week … and I have no idea why. After hovering around pick 170 in ADP for most of the offseason, the veteran has fallen as far as 20 spots in ADP (he is now slightly back up from his absolute low, with an ADP of 183).

Yes, Henry has been sidelined recently with a leg injury. But he is also expected to be ready to go in time for Week 1. Last year, even while splitting snaps with Mike Gesicki, Henry finished as the TE15 in half-PPR points per game.

Now, Gesicki is gone, and the Patriots will have a quarterback upgrade regardless of whether they start Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye. It is true that Henry is an unexciting, touchdown-reliant player at this stage in his career. Last season, he easily led top-20 fantasy tight ends in terms of the percentage of his fantasy production that came from TDs at over 36%. But he’s still a locked-in starting tight end on a team without many standout pass-catchers. If you’re looking for a boring TE2, which is what he is at TE21 in ADP, Henry is a solid value pick.

T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings (+0.62)

I wasn’t lying when I said that Henry was easily the biggest faller of the week; Hockenson lands in second having moved just over half a spot over the last seven days. While this move isn’t particularly noteworthy, Hockenson’s ADP is still a very interesting case to consider. We’ve known all offseason that Hockenson would miss some time with the knee injury that ended his 2023 season, but his value has still shifted dramatically.

His overall ADP started the offseason just outside the top 100 picks, then steadily fell to a low of 128. Then, likely in response to the steady outflow of positive updates on his health, he moved back up draft boards to essentially right where he started … only to again slowly lose value, eventually landing where he sits today at 118 overall. As we get closer and closer to Week 1, fantasy managers get less excited about the prospect of drafting someone who is clearly weeks away from returning.

But is Hockenson worth drafting at his TE13 ADP? After all, he finished the 2023 season as the TE3 in points per game. Having been placed on the PUP list, he will be eligible to return as early as Week 5.

If he returns then and provides production similar to his 2023 numbers, he will be an absolute steal. However, Hockenson tore both his ACL and MCL. The most positive actual projection we’ve gotten on his return is that he is expected to miss four to six weeks. Given that early projections are often optimistic and it may take him multiple weeks to return to a full-time role, it could be midseason before Hockenson is a viable fantasy play … assuming he is still the same player coming off his injury.

With that said, he is still worth drafting and stashing, especially if you have an IR slot - and especially in shallow leagues, you’re going to want an elite tight end. Hockenson has a much greater chance of providing that level of production than players with comparable ADPs like Dalton Schultz and Pat Freiermuth. Drafting Hock is a risk, and not one to take before you fill out your roster, but it’s one that could pay off.
