Key Fantasy Football Injuries Heading into Week 5: Anthony Richardson, Joe Mixon, Khalil Shakir, David Njoku and More
Football Sunday is almost here and these are all the key injuries you need to know.
Quarterbacks
Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts (Oblique/Hip)
Richardson was able to return to practice on Friday, giving him a good chance of suiting up on Sunday. He's dealing with what is mainly considered a pain-tolerance injury, so if he wants to go, he should be able to.
This is the rare case when the starter playing drives down the value of all his pass-catchers. Joe Flacco is the better option for the team and your fantasy team. Unfortunately, it's starting to look like he won't be getting the start.
Running Backs
Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts (Ankle)
Taylor has officially been ruled out after he failed to practice on Friday and will not play in Week 5. It sounds like he could miss two or three weeks due to his high-ankle sprain. In his absence, Trey Sermon is expected to serve as the lead back with Tyler Goodson handling some of the passing down work.
Joe Mixon, Houston Texans (Ankle)
After seemingly being on the cusp of returning in Week 4, Mixon now has been ruled out and will not play this week. This is a tough blow for fantasy owners who were expecting him back on Sunday. Cam Akers is projected to be the lead back, with Dare Ogunbowale mixing in on passing downs unless Dameon Pierce is able to make his return.
Brian Robinson, Washington Commanders (Knee)
Robinson was at practice on Friday, however, the details are very vague when it comes to his participation levels. He had been sidelined all week with a knee injury we knew nothing about until he popped up on the injury report.
This is a situation to monitor closely right up until game time. While he is considered a game-time call, there does seem to be some optimism surrounding his potential availability on Sunday.
Devin Singletary, New York Giants (Groin)
Singletary returned to practice on a limited basis Friday after sitting out all week. Groins are tricky, and oftentimes linger leading to missed time and reinjury. He has been officially listed as doubtful for Week 5. Assuming he misses this game, impressive rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. will be given an opportunity to shine as RB1.
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins (Chest)
Mostert is trending toward playing on Sunday. He had been sidelined since the first half of Week 1. The Dolphins need all the help they can get on offense with the way things are going as of late.
Like all the Dolphins, he will be tough to trust without Tua Tagovailoa under center. His return won't impact De'Von Achane much, but will eliminate any slight value Jaylen Wright or Jeff Wilson may have had.
Zamir White, Las Vegas Raiders (Groin)
White injured his groin in practice this week and is now listed as doubtful. His absence will give Alexander Mattison a chance to completely wrestle the starting job away from White. Fantasy owners should be happy with this though. No one wanted to start White and people were itching to see Mattison take over and become a flex option.
Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns (Knee)
As expected, Chubb is not yet ready to return from his knee injury. The odds are they will use his entire 21-day window. It would be a surprise to see him back on the field before Week 7 or even Week 8. Remember, just because they move him to the active roster doesn't mean he has to be active on Sundays immediately after they make that move.
Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers (Knee)
Warren has once again been ruled out for Week 5. Cordarrelle Patterson has been ruled out as well after being knocked out of the game last week. With Patterson not able to get out there, Najee Harris will see all the volume that he can handle this week.
Wide Receivers
Malik Nabers, New York Giants (Concussion)
Nabers was unable to clear the concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Week 5.
Tank Dell, Houston Texans (Chest)
After sitting out in Week 4, Dell is back and practicing. He is trending toward playing and looks to be on the right track for Week 5.
Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills (Ankle)
Shakir has been ruled out with an ankle injury for Sunday. He has been the top target for Josh Allen so far this season so it will open up opportunities for the other pass catchers.
Tight Ends
Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals (Concussion)
McBride has cleared the concussion protocol and will return in Week 5 after missing just one week.
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns (Ankle)
Njoku finally returned to practice this week but is still considered questionable to play. He is trending in the right direction, however, you should also have a pivot option.
