Fantasy Football Week 5 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups: Devin Bush, Marcus Maye, Logan Hall and More
These are the IDP options you should be targeting on your waiver wire for Week 6.
Linebackers
Trevin Wallace, Carolina Panthers
With Josey Jewell and Shaq Thompson both sidelined this week, Wallace stepped into an every-down role and had a monster game. He piled up 15 tackles (10 solo) and is in line to maintain this usage with Thompson done for the year and Jewell expected to miss additional time. Even when Jewell does return, Wallace should still have a significant role next to him with Thompson gone. He should be your top priority this week if he's still available.
Devin Bush, Cleveland Browns
Bush stepped in for an injured Jordan Hicks this week and had a nice game, leading the team with 10 tackles (eight solo). As long as Hicks remains out, Bush should maintain a significant and productive role. That doesn't necessarily mean he's going to lead the team in tackles every week, but he should have enough value to start on a weekly basis in leagues that start three linebackers.
DeMarvion Overshown, Dallas Cowboys
We have been waiting for this since we watched how good Overshown looked in Week 1 and he finally stepped into an every-down role in Week 5. There is no reason to think this won't be the case for the remainder of the season. On film, he is clearly their most dynamic defender - something they can use with Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence sidelined for a while. He should now be rostered in all IDP leagues.
Mack Wilson Sr., Arizona Cardinals
Wilson has worked himself into significant usage for the Cardinals. This week, he managed six tackles (five solo) and has played between 84-87% of snaps in each of the past three weeks. We wouldn't view him as a high-end IDP option; however, in deeper leagues, he's a sneaky option who you can snag off waiver wires and plug in if needed.
Edgerrin Cooper, Green Bay Packers
This is more of a speculative add and isn't an option for Week 6. The rookie has slowly been cutting into Isaiah McDuffie's snaps and his role is expected to grow as we get deeper into the season. Since Week 1, McDuffie has seen his snaps slowly decline from 97% to 59% while Cooper has seen his snaps jump from 14% to 38%. In deep or dynasty leagues, it's not a bad idea to scoop up Cooper and stash him for a while to see how things continue to progress.
Justin Strnad, Denver Broncos
Cody Barton was the top pickup when Alex Singleton went down, but Strnad is also playing about 75% of snaps and played well in Week 5. He dragged down the ball carrier nine times (seven solo), including one for a loss. There is also room for his role to grow if he continues to play as well as he has.
Defensive Backs
Marcus Maye, Miami Dolphins
Miami is now without starting safeties Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer. Maye is a proven fantasy asset and stepped up this week, leading the team with nine tackles (five solo). Holland is set to miss extended time and Poyer's status is unknown. Even with just Holland out, Maye's role should be secure. If you need a starter for the few weeks, he's a nice addition to your defense.
Marte Mapu, New England Patriots
This is another case of a guy stepping up with both of the starting safeties injured. Mapu is stepping up with Jabrill Peppers and Kyle Dugger down. However, Mapu has a lot more long-term upside for two reasons. First off, he plays a lot of his snaps at linebacker, so his tackles are inflated for a guy who you can play at safety or DB. Also, Peppers is now dealing with legal trouble and he may not be coming back anytime soon depending on how that plays out. We strongly suggest you consider grabbing Mapu off waivers this week.
Taron Johnson, Buffalo Bills
Johnson was a top corner option, if not the top corner option, entering draft season. Unfortunately, he suffered a forearm injury and has landed on the waiver wire in most leagues. It looks like his return is now imminent and this is your reminder to scoop him up before anyone else does.
Tykee Smith, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Smith should be added in all leagues where you have to start cornerbacks. This is because he's really a safety with CB eligibility. This week he led the team with 11 tackles (nine solo), while also forcing a fumble. He's a solid DB option, but a tremendous CB option.
Defensive Linemen
Emmanuel Ogbah, Miami Dolphins
With Bradley Chubb still out and Jaelen Phillips once again done for the year, Ogbah has stepped into the top passing-rushing role in Miami. In Week 5 in that role, he racked up four tackles (two solo) and a sack. He's a proven fantasy asset now with an increased role that will result in more production.
Logan Hall, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Hall stepped up in a major way in Week 5, dragging down the quarterback twice for two sacks. He looks impressive on film and his production is beginning to reflect that. This is a guy who could take off and never look back, becoming a valuable defensive line option moving forward.
