Key Fantasy Football Injuries Heading into Week 6: Derek Carr, Aaron Jones, Nico Collins, Evan Engram and More
These are the players who are banged up coming out of Week 5 and heading into Week 6.
Quarterbacks
Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts (Oblique)
Richardson is practicing to start the week and the team is hopeful he'll be able to return this week. His injury is a matter of pain tolerance, so his availability is very difficult to predict. Still, if you own any pass catchers in Indy, you are better off with Joe Flacco under center.
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints (Oblique)
Carr injured his oblique on Monday Night Football and is going to miss time and likely multiple weeks. Spencer Rattler sounds like he's trending toward getting the start. That's not great news if you own any Saints.
Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers (Calf)
Wilson continues to deal with his forever injury. The team is once again saying that there is a chance that he's active in Week 6. We don't know if this is true and we aren't sure if it matters even if it is true.
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (Back)
Stafford is dealing with back soreness. It doesn't sound like a major concern, but it is worth monitoring. The Rams do not play in Week 6.
Running Backs
Joe Mixon, Houston Texans (Ankle)
Mixon has once again started the week with a DNP. His high-ankle sprain has held him out since Week 2 and he's now in danger of missing another week. It does appear that Dameon Pierce is trending toward returning, which would cast Cam Akers back into irrelevancy.
Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts (Ankle)
Taylor did not practice on Wednesday, but the team does hope he's able to practice in some capacity at some point this week. We'd be surprised if he was able to play in Week 6. Trey Sermon should lead the way once again.
James Cook, Buffalo Bills (Foot)
In a surprising turn of events, Cook was listed as a DNP on Wednesday with a foot/toe injury. We don't know much more about the ailment. However, the team does play on Monday this week, so he has plenty of time to get back on the practice field.
Devin Singletary, New York Giants (Groin)
The Giants are hopeful that Singletary will be able to return this week and say he is trending in the right direction. Groins can be tricky though and oftentimes linger or get re-aggravated. Tyrone Tracy Jr. will get another start if Singletary can't go.
Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns (Knee)
There is a chance that Chubb returns this week and a better chance that he doesn't. Head coach Kevin Stefanski when asked said, "Anything is possible." So that's essentially no help, but it does leave the door open.
Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers (Knee)
Warren is doubtful for Week 6 and Cordarrelle Patterson has once again been ruled out. The backfield will belong to Najee Harris once again.
Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings (Hip)
Jones does have a bye this week, but is considered week to week with a hip injury. If Ty Chandler is sitting on your waiver wire being ignored because of the bye, it may be worth scooping him up this week while he's cheap.
Wide Receivers
Nico Collins, Houston Texans (Hamstring)
Collins has been placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and will now miss at least the next four games. Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell should get a boost in volume and production while he's out.
Khalil Shakir, Buffalo Bills (Ankle)
Shakir did not practice on Wednesday and is in danger of missing another game in Week 6.
Rashee Rice, Kansas City Chiefs (Knee)
Rice underwent surgery to repair his torn LCL. The good news is that he avoided any additional damage. His fantasy season is over, but there is an outside shot that he could return for the NFL playoffs.
Tight Ends
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns (Knee)
Njoku was able to practice on Wednesday and the team hopes that he will be available in Week 6. This is a situation to monitor throughout the week. He has been plagued by injury all season and the offense could really use them out there.
George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (Ribs)
Kittle was listed with a rib injury and limited in practice on Wednesday. However, there was no word that he re-aggravated the injury in Week 5 and is expected to be ready to go for Week 6.
Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars (Hamstring)
The Jags are optimistic that Engram will finally be able to return to action in Week 6. We will monitor his status throughout the week.
