Caleb Williams Leading QBs
It’s been another pretty down week for quarterbacks, at least in terms of passing yards. Only four players have reached 300 yards this week, and just three came on Sunday.
Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield leads the way this week with 325 passing yards. He also threw four touchdowns, but was picked off three times to negate what could have been a monster fantasy showing.
Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson threw for 323 yards, but had just one touchdown and a pick to slow a potential big day.
Detroit’s Jared Goff went for 315 passing yards, and needed just 25 attempts and 18 completions to get there. He had three passing touchdowns and is a top-five fantasy QB so far this week.
Chicago’s Williams is the top fantasy QB so far this week, checking in at just under 30 points. He threw for 226 yards, but had four touchdowns and no picks. Williams added 56 rushing yards on four attempts to tack on a few more points.
Green Bay’s Jordan Love also threw four touchdowns on his way to a big fantasy showing. He had 258 passing yards and also threw a pick.
There’s not many big-time fantasy QBs currently sitting inside the top-10 fantasy QBs this week. Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels are the only really big names in there right now.
Along with Williams, Justin Fields, Bo Nix and Drake Maye were all top-10 performers this week.
Fields only had 145 passing yards, while not throwing a touchdown or pick. He rushed for 59 yards and two scores to put up a good fantasy outing.
Nix threw for 216 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. His 61 rushing yards helped turn an average fantasy day into a pretty good one.
Maye threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns in his first NFL start, but two picks held him back some. Maye had 38 rushing yards to help offset some of the picks.
None of the performances from Fields, Nix and Maye look all that great on paper, but that just shows how weak fantasy QBs were again in week 6.
Chicago Veteran Sightings
The Bears dominated the Jaguars on Sunday in London behind Williams. Two pass catchers did a lot of the damage for the Bears.
Tight end Cole Kmet had 70 yards and two touchdowns on five catches and targets. Wideout Keenan Allen had 41 yards and two scores on five grabs and targets.
Those would probably be the third and fourth pass catchers you would have expected to have good games, behind D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze. Moore only had 20 yards on four catches and five targets, while Odunze went for 40 yards on just two catches and targets.
It’s good for the offense to have several pass catchers who can contribute, but it makes it hard for fantasy owners to trust any Chicago wideout or tight end. It sets Williams up for fantasy success every week, but means that it might get tougher to start Moore, Kmet, Odunze and Allen going forward if this keeps up.
Romeo Doubs Returns, Scores Twice
After missing week 5, Doubs returned and helped the Packers take down the Cardinals.
Doubs was targeted four times, making three grabs for 49 yards and two scores.
With Green Bay’s pass catchers all pretty much in place for this contest, it was a balanced attack, like many fantasy owners expected coming into the season.
Christian Watson led the team with 68 yards, while adding a touchdown on three grabs and four targets. Jayden Reed had 28 yards and a score on six catches and targets. Dontayvion Wicks was the only one not to produce, as he had just one nine-yard catch on three targets.
Chris Godwin Continues to Lead Bucs’ Passing Game
Mike Evans was the clear No. 1 coming into the season, but it’s been Godwin who has led the way so far.
Godwin had 125 yards and two touchdowns on 11 catches and 13 targets in week 6. Evans had just 34 yards on two catches and six targets.
Evans has just 310 yards, but five scores, on 25 catches and 42 targets for the season. Godwin is up to 511 yards, five touchdowns, 43 catches and 53 targets.
With all that in mind, Godwin is the safer fantasy play for the time being. I think Evans will still get his and deserves to start, but I like Godwin more at this point.
Diggs, Dell Step Up with Collins Out
Nico Collins hit injured reserve this week, and many guessed that Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell would lead the Texans’ pass catchers.
The duo did just that. Diggs had 77 yards and a score on six catches and seven targets, while Dell had 57 yards and a touchdown on seven catches and nine targets. Both are solid starting options in all formats until Collins returns.
I also expected tight end Dalton Schultz to step up, and while he was targeted eight times, he finished with just four catches and 27. The eight targets should still stick out to fantasy owners, and make Schultz a pretty solid starting option until Collins returns.
Josh Downs is the Real Deal, at Least with Joe Flacco
Flacco started again at QB for Indianapolis, and Downs delivered another big showing. Downs had 66 yards and a touchdown on seven catches and nine targets.
Downs has been a good/great fantasy option since Flacco took over at QB. It remains to be seen if he can stay hot when Anthony Richardson is back there, but with Michael Pittman dealing with a back injury, Downs might serve as the No. 1 Colts’ wideout for a few weeks, at minimum.
Brown and Smith Return in Style
It’s been since week 1 that A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were on the field at the same time for the Eagles. In week 6, they played together and both had good fantasy outings.
Brown went for 116 yards and a touchdown on six catches and nine targets. Smith added 64 yards and a touchdown on three grabs and four targets.
Tight end Dallas Goedert only was targeted once. He was outplayed by backup Grant Calcaterra, who went for 67 yards on four catches and targets.
A New Leader for Fantasy MVP?
Saquon Barkley had arguably been the top fantasy MVP to this point of the season, but Baltimore’s Derrick Henry might be the new leader after week 6.
Henry had 132 rushing yards and two scores on 24 carries. He’s up to 704 yards and eight touchdowns, which puts him on pace for nearly 2,000 yards - not to mention 26 total touchdowns.
The Ravens’ offense is starting to figure things out, and Henry is at the center of things.
Does Dobbins have Company?
J.K. Dobbins had 102 total yards and a touchdown on 27 total touches in the Chargers’ week 6 win over the Broncos.
The Chargers played without Gus Edwards, but backup RB Kimani Vidal did some nice things and had a splash play with a 38-yard receiving score, and many are now wondering if Vidal will not only take Edwards’ backup role, but maybe eat into Dobbins’ workload.
Dobbins still played 57 snaps, which was 73% of the team’s total, while Vidal was at 19 (24%), but that also doesn’t mean things can’t change moving forward. Dobbins has a long injury history, making this a situation to keep your eyes on.
Najee Harris Finally Delivering
Fantasy owners have waited years for Harris to be a big-time fantasy asset, and it’s really never come. Harris was pretty much written off before this season, but is taking advantage of injuries to his RB teammates and is emerging as a weekly fantasy starter.
Harris had 122 total yards and a touchdown on 16 touches this week. It was his first game over 100 total yards and with a score this season, but he’s gone for at least 73 total yards in all six games.
For a player drafted later in drafts, fantasy owners have to be thrilled with his consistent production this season. The only problem is Jaylen Warren, who only got six less snaps than Harris this week.
Warren has been banged up most of the season, which might mean it’s time to trade Harris, before his value starts to fall.
A Committee Again in Atlanta?
Bijan Robinson is the best back in Atlanta, but Tyler Allgeier had his best game of the season on Sunday, and now fantasy owners are wondering if the Falcons’ backfield is another committee again.
Robinson had 105 total yards and two touchdowns on 18 touches, while Allgeier had 108 total yards and a score on 21 touches. Robinson got 39 snaps to Allgeier’s 28.
The matchup was favorable for both backs to go off, and they did just that. If this remains a pretty split backfield, Robinson is going to have a hard time living up to the preseason hype, while Allgeier will be a weekly starting option, depending on matchups.
