Davante Adams has finally been traded, and he gets to reunite with his old friend Aaron Rodgers on the Jets.

Let’s break down what the trade means for the Jets’ offense going forward.

Trade Details

The trade was reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

He followed up that post by saying the Jets sent the Raiders a conditional third-round pick. It could become a second-round pick based on Adams’ performance.

Adams’ Fantasy Outlook

Adams played in three games with the Raiders this season before suffering a hamstring injury. I wouldn’t be surprised if Adams is magically healthy and ready to go for week 7.

Adams had 209 yards and a touchdown on 18 catches and 27 targets this season. Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell have been the Raiders’ quarterbacks this season, and even though Rodgers is aging and well past his prime, this is a significant upgrade for Adams.

Adams starred in Green Bay for several seasons, and Rodgers was the QB throwing to him most of the way. Adams went over 1,000 receiving yards three times in a six-season span, and he scored double-digit touchdowns in five of those seasons.

Adams is probably already past his prime, and Rodgers definitely is, but that doesn’t mean those two won’t both benefit because of this move.

Adams goes back to being a good weekly starting option in all leagues, while Rodgers becomes a bit better streaming option.

How are Other Jets Affected?

Garrett Wilson is the Jets’ No. 1 option right now, and the addition of Adams is definitely going to eat into his production. It remains to be seen who serves as the No. 1 option in the passing game, but it’s fair to guess both guys could receive 10+ targets a game and still be above-average fantasy options every week.

Allen Lazard has been the team’s No. 2 receiver, but this trade will clearly knock him down a peg. I just wrote about him being a possible streaming flex option every week, but now I’m a lot less confident that he can be that. I’d avoid Lazard in my starting lineup until we see how Adams fits into the offense.

Mike Williams has been the team’s No. 3 receiver, but hasn’t been playing a ton of snaps. He’s making a ton of money, so I don’t think he’ll get cut, but his fantasy potential takes a massive hit because of the trade. Williams should be avoided in all fantasy formats now.

Any other Jets’ wideout can be completely avoided in all fantasy leagues now. Guys like Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley have some dynasty value, but that’s it.

Another weapon in the passing game probably helps Breece Hall out in the backfield. He was heavily involved in week 6, while Braelon Allen barely played. I’d expect Hall to keep dominating the backfield as the Jets look to crawl out of the hole they’ve dug themselves into and chase a playoff spot.

Hall might get a couple less touches a game, but he also should have more success with his touches with so many talented pass catchers on the field. Keep starting Hall every week.

Tight end Tyler Conklin was a possible weekly streaming option, but this trade pretty much wipes that out. He’ll still have decent fantasy games, but they will be random. Outside of deeper leagues, I’d try to avoid starting Conklin the rest of the season.

Final Thoughts

This is a big move, both in real life and for fantasy purposes. It’s not often that one of the league’s best pass catchers gets moved midseason, and because he’s already got a history with his new quarterback, there shouldn’t be many worries about adjusting with his new team.

Expect Adams to be a good fantasy option the remainder of the season, even with Wilson there. Both wideouts should be guys you can trust each week for the remainder of the season.

I think this hurts Lazard, Williams and Conklin in the long run. Each will still play and factor in here and there, but it likely won’t be consistent, so all those guys are probably just deep league options, and not starting ones.

Rodgers’ fantasy outlook goes up a little bit, but this doesn’t make him a must add or start guy right away.

Hall might get less work overall, but I think this ultimately helps him in the end. Allen probably is back to a more traditional backup role, and will only become fantasy relevant again if the Jets’ offense really takes off.

All that being said, I’m not sure this move actually moves the needle for the Jets all that much. This of course is a positive for this season, but they have more problems than just some offensive woes.

Maybe the drastic team changes over the past couple weeks will get things moving in a positive direction, but I still think they are just a wild card contender, not a true title contender.
