Quarterbacks
Geno Smith, Daniel Jones, Trevor Lawrence, Aaron Rodgers and Justin Herbert are the five quarterbacks I want to discuss this week.
Smith completed 21 of his 34 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns in week 9, but he also threw three interceptions. He was sacked seven times and rushed six times for 16 yards.
Smith only has failed to reach double digits as a fantasy performer once this season, and he’s now topped 20 points on three occasions.
Jones was 20-of-26 passing for 174 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked twice and rushed seven times for 54 yards and another score.
It ended up being his best fantasy showing of the season, even though his passing numbers looked pretty average. He’s scored over 18 fantasy points four times this season now.
Lawrence threw for 169 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions while completing just 16 of his 31 passes. He made it a decent fantasy showing after rushing for eight yards and two scores on five attempts.
Lawrence scored over 20 fantasy points for a second straight week and now has topped 15 fantasy points in five straight.
Rodgers had 211 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions on 22-of-32 passing this week. He was sacked twice and didn’t add anything as a rusher.
Rodgers hit 20 fantasy points for the second time this season, and he’s gone over 15 points in four straight.
Herbert was 18-of-27 passing for 282 yards, two touchdowns and no picks this week. He was sacked six times and added just two rushing yards on three attempts.
He’s tallied 13 or more fantasy points in four straight, while averaging over 20 the past two contests.
Let’s now rank the top waiver options for streaming options and then the rest of the season.
Jones goes up against the Panthers in week 10. Lawrence takes on the Vikings, while Herbert faces the Titans. Rodgers will face the Cardinals, while Smith is on his bye.
It’s a favorable matchup for Jones in week 10. Rodgers has a slightly better-than-average clash, while the test for Herbert is pretty average and the one for Lawrence is below average.
I like Rodgers the best this week among the four possible week 10 streamers. The matchup is solid and he’s coming off a stronger showing and I think he keeps it rolling.
I’d take Herbert against the Titans next. The matchup isn’t the best, but I simply like the way he’s been playing more than Jones or Lawrence.
I’d take Jones over Lawrence for the last streaming spot. It has a lot to do with the matchup, and a bit based on how they played last week.
As for the rest-of-the-season rankings, I also like Rodgers the best of the bunch, with Herbert just behind him. I like the Jets’ offense more than the Chargers, and that’s where Rodgers gets the edge there.
Even though Smith’s strength of schedule is brutal going forward, I still trust him over the other two. There might be more turnover-heavy games, but volume passing stats should make Smith the better fantasy option most weeks.
I like Jones over Lawrence for the last spot here. Jones’ schedule is more favorable going forward, and even though I feel Lawrence’s job is safer, I’d roll with Jones over him.
Tight Ends
Mike Gesicki, Taysom Hill, Theo Johnson, Ja'Tavion Sanders and Hunter Henry are the five tight ends we’ll discuss this week.
Gesicki erupted for 100 yards and two touchdowns on five catches and six targets this week. He’s gone over 70 yards in two straight games now.
Those two big showings line up with Tee Higgins’ absence from the lineup, so that’s something to keep in mind here. Some of Gesicki’s best games at the start of the season also were without Higgins around.
Hill rushed for 19 yards and a touchdown on five carries, caught four of his five targets for 41 yards and wasn’t able to complete his only passing attempt.
Hill has over 100 total yards the past two weeks combined now, and looks like he could factor in more going forward if Chris Olave ends up missing time. His do-it-all ability makes him a unique fantasy option, but one with more upside than most.
Johnson tallied 51 yards and a score on three grabs and six targets. It was his second straight week over 35 yards and with three grabs.
He had a zero-target outing the week before that, but had 30 and 48 yards in the two contests prior to that. He’s trending up, and should continue to be involved as the Giants start looking toward the future.
Sanders tallied 87 yards on four catches and five targets this week. After a seven-yard, one-catch performance last week, this was a nice bounceback effort for Sanders.
The rookie TE had 100 combined yards on 11 catches and 13 targets the previous two weeks, so Sanders is starting to stack some positive results.
Henry went for 56 yards on seven receptions and eight targets in week 9. He has at least 30 yards in five straight games now.
Henry has performed better with Drake Maye in the lineup, and is up to 23 targets over the past three contests.
In week 9, Gesicki takes on the Ravens on Thursday night. Hill faces the Falcons, while Johnson and Sanders square off in the same game. Henry goes up against the Bears.
This sets up as a fantastic matchup for Johnson, as Carolina’ defense is one of the worst in the league in slowing opposing tight ends. It’s a bit better than average matchup for Hill, while Gesicki and Henry are part of more average matchups. It’s a very tough matchup for Sanders.
Taking everything into account, I like Gesicki as the top streaming option for week 10. Even if Higgins is back in the lineup, I think the Bengals will look to continue feeding Gesicki, and it will lead to another solid fantasy showing.
I like Henry next. I like what he’s been doing of late and think there’s a good connection there between him and Maye. I think that continues in week 10.
I’d take a gamble on Johnson next. It’s all about the matchup here, and I want to see if the Giants look to feed him after his solid showing this past week.
I’d take Hill over Sanders for the last spot. I’d usually only unleash Hill if there were no other tight ends coming off good showings, but the matchup really scares me off Sanders here.
As for the rest-of-the-season rankings, I’d take Henry first. He’s been the most consistent fantasy TE of this bunch in my eyes, and I think he’ll be the safest option for the remainder of the season.
I’d take a big swing on Johnson here. His strength of schedule is fantastic going forward and I think that’s enough for me to take a gamble on him because of the inconsistencies of all these guys.
After that, I got Sanders. He’s got some favorable matchups ahead and should continue to be heavily involved as Carolina looks toward the future.
Gesicki slots in above Hill for me. Gesicki might rank atop this list if Higgins was out for the season, but at full strength, Gesicki usually is a below-average fantasy performer. Hill’s fantasy outlook is the most murky, especially after the team fired Dennis Allen on Monday.
