Brayan Rocchio's secure everyday role keeps him fantasy-viable despite a temporary slump

Over the last seven days, Rocchio has slumped to a .158 batting average, though he salvaged some value with a home run and two stolen bases. He continues to serve as the everyday starter at shortstop for the first-place Guardians, who hold a 37-30 record. His grip on the position is reinforced with Gabriel Arias sidelined on the injured list.

While his recent slump is frustrating, Rocchio's overall season line of .280 with 11 steals is a massive leap over his career .232 average. Our projections anticipate some regression toward a .236 mark, but his improved contact rate and plate discipline suggest his step forward this season is largely legitimate.

Cleveland plays six games this week, starting with a difficult series against New York where Rocchio faces tough arms like Gerrit Cole (2.00 ERA) and Carlos Rodon (2.88 ERA). Matchups improve later against Detroit, including a soft landing against Jack Flaherty (5.52 ERA). Rocchio remains a viable middle-infield starter in most formats. Verdict: Start.
