Kenley Jansen | Fantasy Outlook

Kenley Jansen remains a reliable saves source despite bullpen competition

The veteran reliever has looked sharp lately, posting a pristine 0.00 ERA and 0.67 WHIP over his last three appearances while locking down his 485th career save. The fourth-place Tigers (33-44) are riding a three-game winning streak, creating immediate late-game opportunities. Although team depth charts currently position Kyle Finnegan as the primary closer, Jansen continues to be summoned for key late-inning situations.

Jansen's current 4.34 ERA and 1.20 WHIP are slightly elevated compared to his career norms, but our models project him to settle in with a solid 3.66 ERA and 1.17 WHIP rest of season. His strikeout stuff remains highly effective with 73 projected punchouts over 59.0 innings. While he carries durability risk at age 38, his recent clean outings suggest his early-season ratios are stabilizing.

Detroit faces a busy seven-game home stretch this week, starting with three games against the first-place Yankees followed by four games against the Astros. With plenty of competitive matchups on deck, Jansen should see multiple opportunities to pad his save totals. Fantasy managers needing saves should continue deploying him. Verdict: Start.
