As the 2023 MLB season enters its fifth week, fantasy baseball owners are getting comfortable scouting the waiver wire for the best waiver wire pickups to enhance their squads. In a long season, it is crucial to get into the swing of things early and make it a habit of constantly improving one’s team. In this article, we will take a look at the top fantasy baseball pickups heading into Week 5 of the 2023 season.
Top Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups
Jarren Duran, OF, Boston Red Sox 46% owned
Duran has been playing some really good baseball as of late. For instance, over the first month of baseball, he has a solid average of .417 with 13 RBI. With such a great start Duran has been able to put his disappointing 2022 season behind him. Much like Mervis, Jarren Duran was able to make serious noise in the minors early in spring. He was able to refine his athletic gifts such as his raw speed and solid reaction times. More importantly, he was able to improve on his arm strength and now can now patrol any position from the outfield Also, he has adjusted his swing which is allowing the barrel of the bat to come forward more smoothly which is resulting in more contact swings. If Duran can continue playing well looking for him to get more playing time as well as get an increased role in the offense.

Matt Mervis, 1B, Chicago Cubs 44% owned
Mervis just graduated to the show this weekend, playing first base and batting 7th for the Cubs. He was able to accelerate his progress by leading the minors in extra-base hits. Overall, he had very productive at-bats in the minors, hitting a .309 avg with 36 home runs and 119 RBIs. Matt Mervis is a great hitter because he has solid pitch recognition while swinging for power to go along with solid discipline at the plate. Once he can get established and be a regular contributor on offense, look for him to hit from the middle of the order; more importantly, he can potentially be one of the premier first basemen in the league.
Nick Senzel, OF-3B, Cincinnati Reds, 41% owned
Nick Senzel is finally enjoying his coming-out party. The versatile outfield and infielder has been a great source of production, as he has a batting average of .520 with three home runs and 10 RBIs over his last seven games. While health has been a significant concern for Senzel, he has flashed signs of great power and speed, leading to his vast improvement this season. More importantly, his passion and contact combination are lethal for opposing pitchers, as he can bat from anywhere in the lineup. Also, he is pretty versatile defensively, as he can play in the outfield and infield.
Bryce Miller, P, Seattle Mariners, 41% owned
Bryce Miller had quit the debut for Seattle Mariners. The 24-hard-throwing pitcher allowed one run on 2 hits while striking out 10 in his first start of his career against the Oakland Athletics. The reason why he has been able to find success on the mound is due to the fact that he has refined his mechanics. He has switched up his pitch location along with his great ability to change velocity with every pitch. As a matter of fact, his four-seam fastball is quite productive in striking out hitters as it has the most vertical movement out of all fastballs in the MLB. In his debut, he did not issue a walk and threw hard as his pitches registered 97.3 mph. While he did utilize his fastball early and often as his main strikeout pitch, he did also change up his pitches by throwing in the slider and the curve. If Miller is able to continue his dominant command of the strike zone, while changing the velocities of his pitches, the Seattle Mariners may very well have a new ace for them on the mound to win some very important games for them over the course of the season.
