Fantasy Baseball Prospect Watch | Players Off to Strong Starts: Heston Kjerstad, Joey Loperfido, Nathan Martorella, Andrew Morris, Adam Mazur and More

Taking a look at some of the top-performing minor league players so far this season.

The MLB season is now two weeks in, and now is the one-week mark for the minor league season as well.

With that in mind, let’s look at some of the top performers so far. We’ll focus on Triple-A players mainly with their season a couple weeks in, but also mention some players at lower levels. I’m also going to focus on players age 25 or lower.

Triple-A Players

Baltimore prospects Coby Mayo and Heston Kjerstad still lead AAA in hits, with 20 and 19, respectively.

Pittsburgh’s Liover Peguero and Nick Gonzales join Baltimore’s Connor Norby at 18 hits each.

Kjerstad and Houston’s Joey Loperfido each have belted four home runs already.

Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday, who recently got called up, leads AAA with 18 runs scored. Kjerstad has scored 15 runs, while Gonzales and Loperfido are at 14 runs each.

Kjerstad leads Triple-A with 25 RBIs, with Los Angeles Dodgers’ Miguel Vargas a distant second at 15 RBIs. Norby and Loperfido also have 15 RBIs each.

Dodgers’ Trey Sweeney leads the level with 15 walks across 11 games played. Holliday and New York Yankees’ Carlos Narvaez have 12 walks each.

Seattle’s Ryan Bliss has already stolen eight bases. Yankee’s Caleb Durbin is at seven stolen bases, with Oakland’s Esteury Ruiz and Washington’s Darren Baker at six steals each.

Washington’s James Wood has an eye-popping .558 on-base percentage across 43 plate appearances. San Francisco’s Brett Wisely is at a .523 OBP, with Sweeney and Durbin at .519 each. Toronto’s Leo Jimenez has gotten on base at a .500 clip.

On the pitching side of things, St. Louis’ Sem Robberse and Arizona’s Cristian Mena have two wins each to lead the league. 

St. Louis Michael McGreevy leads Triple-A with 15 2/3 innings pitched, while Mena is at 15 innings (and the only guys to have met that mark so far).

New York Mets’ Christian Scott has 19 strikeouts over two starts and nine innings pitched. Arizona’s Slade Cecconi is at 17 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings and three starts, while Houston’s Misael Tamarez has the exact same statline in those couple areas.

Dodgers’ Ricky Vanasco has three saves to lead AAA. Arizona’s Justin Martinez, St. Louis’ Ryan Loutos and Toronto’s Connor Cooke all have two saves so far.

Baltimore’s Cade Povich has the best earned run average among qualified players, with an 0.82 mark across 11 innings pitched. Robberse has a 1.80 ERA across 10 innings, and San Francisco’s Carson Seymour has a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 innings so far.

Double-A Players

San Diego’s Nathan Martorella leads the AA level with 11 total hits in six games. Arizona’s Wilderd Patino, Texas’ Liam Hicks, Toronto’s Josh Kasevich and Oakland’s Colby Thomas have 10 knocks each.

New York’s Agustin Ramirez and Thomas have already hit four home runs each. Philadelphia’s Carson Taylor had three blasts.

Minnesota’s Emmanuel Rodriguez leads the level with nine runs scored already, doing that in just five games. Martorella, Chicago White Sox’s Terrell Tatum and Tampa Bay’s Carson Williams have scored seven runs each.

Ramirez leads the way in RBIs with 10. Taylor has eight RBIs to his name.

Texas’ Frainyer Chavez and Pittsburgh’s Tsung-Che Cheng have walked eight times each. Atlanta’s Cody Milligan leads the way with six stolen bases.

San Diego’s Adam Mazur has made two strong starts already, allowing just one run across 11 innings. Cleveland’s Doug Nikhazy hasn’t allowed a run over two starts and 10 innings, while Dodgers’ Justin Wrobleski has a 1.80 ERA across 10 innings.

Arizona’s Yu-Min Lin already has 15 strikeouts over eight innings pitched. Houston’s Miguel Ullola is up to 14 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings, while Nikhazy has 13 strikeouts in 10 innings of work.

High-A Players

Cincinnati’s Cam Collier and Seattle’s Ben Williamson lead High-A with 10 hits each. Baltimore’s Creed Willems and Pittsburgh’s Lonnie White Jr. have clubbed three homers each.

Colorado’s Dyan Jorge leads the league with eight runs scored, with Houston’s Luis Baez and Pittsburgh’s Jack Brannigan at seven runs each. Minnesota’s Rubel Cespedes has driven in nine runs in four games, while Tampa Bay’s Xavier Isaac has eight RBIs over five games.

Tampta Bay’s Chandler Simpson leads the way in stolen bases with seven.

Angels’ Joel Hurtado has pitched 10 2/3 innings over two starts, allowing just two runs. Washington’s Andry Lara has allowed just three runs over 10 innings. Minnesota’s Andrew Morris has surrendered just a run over 10 innings.

Tampa Bay’s Trevor Martin has struck out 16 batters over 10 innings. Morris is at 15 strikeouts, while Lara has 14 strikeouts.

A Players

Seattle’s Luis Suisbel and Cincinnati’s Dominic Pitelli lead the A level with 11 hits each. Kansas City’s Daniel Vazquez and Seattle’s Lazaro Montes have 10 knocks each. 

Dodgers’ Zyhir Hope and Seattle’s Jonny Farmelo have three homers each already. San Diego’s Jay Beshears and Colorado’s Braylen Wimmer lead the way in runs scored (9). Arizona’s Cristofer Torin and Washington’s Brandon Pimentel have 12 RBIs each. Milwaukee’s Yhoswar Garcia and Toronto’s Victor Arias have six stolen bases each.

Seattle’s Tyler Gough, Cincinnati’s Brian Edgington and Angels’ Barrett Kent have all pitched 10 innings across two starts. 

Houston’s Ethan Pecko and Arizona’s Caden Grice lead the way with 12 strikeouts each. Kansas City’s Mauricio Veliz and Mets’ Jack Wenninger have 11 strikeouts each. None of those guys have over seven innings pitched yet.
