Discussing some of the best pitching performances from April 24.

All 30 MLB teams were in action again on Wednesday, April 24, so there’s plenty to discuss from a fantasy baseball perspective.

Cardinals 5, Diamondbacks 1

Kyle Gibson improved to 2-2 after pitching six strong innings for St. Louis. He allowed a run on five hits and two walks, while striking out six batters.

Jordan Montgomery fell to 1-1 after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over seven innings. Montgomery struck out four batters and has a 2.08 earned run average in the early going.

Mets 8, Giants 2

Sean Manaea started for New York, but only worked 4 2/3 innings, so he didn’t get the win. Manaea didn’t allow a run after giving up four hits and walks, and he struck out six. Reed Garrett earned his fourth win out of the pen already after striking out four over two innings - he’s got a 0.71 ERA after allowing his first earned run.

Ryan Walker opened the game for San Francisco, striking out two in an inning. Sean Hjelle relieved him and took the loss after allowing three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Landen Roupp also allowed three runs, but in 1 1/3 innings.

Orioles 6, Angels 5

Dean Kremer got his first win of the season after striking out 10 batters in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk.

Craig Kimbrel got his seventh save despite allowing an unearned run in the ninth.

Tyler Anderson fell to 2-3 after working five innings for Los Angeles. He struck out seven, while allowing two runs on four hits and four walks.

Red Sox 8, Guardians 0

Cooper Criswell earned his first win after pitching five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, while striking out three and walking none.

Carlos Carrasco fell to 1-2 after giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out four batters.

Reds 7, Phillies 4

Nick Lodolo started for Cincinnati, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings, while striking out four. His ERA is 2.12 so far.

Justin Wilson earned his first win out of the pen after getting an out. Alexis Diaz earned his fifth save after pitching the ninth.

Spencer Turnbull turned in another strong start, allowing a run on three hits and three walks across five innings, while striking out eight. His ERA is 1.33.

Seranthony Dominguez was charged with a blown save and loss after allowing four runs and getting only two outs.

Brewers 3, Pirates 2

Bryse Wilson started for Milwaukee, striking out three over 4 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks.

Bryan Hudson earned his second win out of the bullpen after getting five outs - he’s got a 0.68 ERA. Joel Payamps earned his fourth save after working around a couple errors in the ninth inning.

Josh Fleming pitched 2 1/3 innings to start the game for Pittsburgh - he allowed two unearned runs and took the loss.

Dodgers 11, Nationals 2

Landon Knack picked up his first win after pitching six innings for Los Angeles. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Jake Irvin took the loss for Washington after pitching 4 2/3 innings. He gave up six runs on 12 hits and a walk, while striking out three.

Rays 7, Tigers 5

Chris Devenski was charged with a blown save, but got the win for Tampa Bay in a bullpen game. Tyler Alexander ate up four innings, allowing two runs along the way.

Garrett Cleavinger picked up his second save of the season. Normal closer Pete Fairbanks is on the injured list, so Cleavinger could get some saves in the next couple weeks.

Jack Flaherty started and pitched five innings for Detroit, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out six and walked none.

Will Vest was charged with his second blown save and first loss of the season.

Yankees 7, Athletics 3

Clarke Schmidt improved to 2-0 after striking out six batters across 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.

Joe Boyle fell to 1-4 after giving up two runs in three innings. He allowed three hits and four walks, while striking out six.

Braves 4, Marlins 3 (10 inn.)

Reynaldo Lopez worked seven strong innings for Atlanta, but didn’t get the win. He allowed a run on three hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Raisel Iglesias was charged with a blown save. A.J. Minter improved to 4-1 after working a scoreless 10th inning - his ERA is 1.50 right now.

Sixto Sanchez started and allowed three runs on five hits and a walk across 2 2/3 innings for Miami. He struck out three along the way. Tanner Scott took his fourth loss after allowing the run in the 10th inning.

Cubs 4, Astros 3

Jameson Taillon improved to 2-0 after pitching 5 2/3 innings for Chicago. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Hector Neris earned his second save of the season, despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Spencer Arrighetti slipped to 0-3 after giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out seven along the way.

Royals 3, Blue Jays 2

Alec Marsh started for Kansas City and didn’t allow a run over 4 1/3 before leaving after being hit by a comebacker. He gave up two hits and two walks, while striking out one.

John Schreiber earned his second win out of the pen. James McArthur earned his sixth save after striking out two in the ninth.

Yariel Rodriguez took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out a pair.

Twins 6, White Sox 3

Joe Ryan got his first win of the season after striking out eight in six innings. He gave up three runs on four hits and a walk.

Griffin Jax picked up his third save after working a 1-2-3 ninth inning. His time as the fill-in closer should be coming to an end soon, as Jhoan Duran is nearly ready to go.

Garrett Crochet fell to 1-4 after allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks across four innings. He struck out six batters along the way.

Rangers 5, Mariners 1

Jon Gray started for Texas, but didn’t get the win after pitching only 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven while allowing a run on seven hits and a walk.

Bryce Miller suffered the loss after pitching four innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out five.

Padres 5, Rockies 2

Matt Waldron earned his first win of the season after pitching six innings. He surrendered a run on four hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Robert Suarez earned his ninth save after working a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Ty Blach took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings. He did not record a strikeout.
