Jhoan Duran | Fantasy Outlook

Duran remains a pristine closing option as the Phillies push for the NL East crown.

Jhoan Duran has been virtually unhittable of late, preserving his perfect 15-for-15 save record this season. Over his last six appearances spanning six innings, he has surrendered just one hit and zero walks while racking up 10 strikeouts. This flawless stretch is a massive boon for the second-place Phillies (35-30), where Duran safely commands the ninth inning as the unquestioned primary closer.

Duran's current 1.34 ERA and 0.84 WHIP on the year easily outpace last season's stellar 1.91 ERA. While our models project minor regression toward a 3.04 ERA and 1.13 WHIP rest-of-season, his 14.70 K/9 strikeout rate is completely legitimate. The oblique strain that sidelined him in April is fully in the rearview mirror, making him a tier-one fantasy asset.

This week, the Phillies embark on a six-game road trip against Toronto and Milwaukee. The remaining schedule offers prime save opportunities, especially against a Toronto team starting high-ERA veteran Patrick Corbin on Monday. Our models expect Duran to pick up around two saves and four strikeouts over 3.2 innings of work. Start him with complete confidence.
