The waiver wire can only get you so far usually, so we’ll turn our attention to trades today. I noticed Washington Nationals’ CJ Abrams on a pair of popular trades inside the FantasySP Fantasy Baseball Trade Analyzer, so let’s discuss the young shortstop in detail.

Abrams’ Season So Far/Career Numbers
The 23-year-old Abrams is already in his third MLB season. He’s put up pretty consistent numbers, so we know what to expect from him at this point.
In 59 games in 2024, Abrams has a .245 average and .292 on-base percentage. He has 12 doubles, 10 home runs and four triples among his 59 total knocks. Abrams has 31 RBIs, 35 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, 13 walks and 55 strikeouts.
A year ago, Abrams played in 151 games and had a .245 average and .300 OBP. In his first season in 2022, Abrams had a .246 average and .280 OBP.
Abrams has added some power to his game, and is on pace for the best numbers of his career. Yet, with a pretty low average and OBP, fantasy owners are wondering if they should be trading Abrams.
Popular Trades Involving Abrams
Abrams is in two popular trades, and they are both with a Toronto Blue Jays player.
In one trade, Abrams is being compared to Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and in the other, Abrams is being dealt for Bo Bichette.
Our trade analyzer uses our trade value chart, and a quick peek shows that Guerrero is the highest-rated player among the three mentionded, while Bichette is the lowest-ranked guy. So Guerrero is preferred over Abrams, while Abrams is preferred over Bichette.
Let’s dive into things a little deeper, first looking at the stats for Guerrero and Bichette.
Guerrero has played 65 games this season, and sits with a .292 average and .383 OBP. He’s got 12 doubles and seven homers, along with 30 RBIs and runs scored, two stolen bases, 36 walks and 49 strikeouts.
Bichette has appeared in 62 games, and has a .239 average and .287 OBP. He’s got 13 doubles, one triple and four home runs. Bichette also has posted 27 RBIs, 22 runs, four stolen bases, 14 walks and 42 strikeouts.
Guerrero’s season numbers for average and OBP are above his career marks, but most of his other stats are down overall. Bichette has a way lower average and OBP than his career marks, and most of his other numbers are also significantly lower.
Trade Decisions/Advice
I’m all about trying to capitalize on players' values during the course of a fantasy season.
All of the players in this trade discussion are fairly young, but also have enough MLB experience to know what to expect from them.
Abrams looks to be on pace for a career season, but with a similar low average and OBP to his career marks. Guerrero has upped his average and OBP, but it hasn’t led to career-best numbers yet. Bichette has struggled most of the season, but has enough history of success to try to take a gamble on him.
In terms of how I look at the three players for the rest of the season, I fall in line with the FantasySP Trade Analyzer. I like what I’ve seen from Guerrero, and think the rest of his stats get a nice bump up as the season continues. Abrams is simply a solid fantasy player, and offers enough value to roster and start for the rest of the season (even with his lower average and OBP). Bichette, on the other hand, is a guy I’d try to trade, as he just can’t seem to get things going this season.
So, I’d take Guerrero over Abrams, even though it’s pretty close, and Abrams over Bichette (that one by a decent bit).
If you roster Abrams, or would like to acquire him, there’s a ton of other players who are ranked close to Abrams and are good trade options too. Check out the trade value chart and be sure to run every deal of yours through the trade analyzer before proposing or accepting a trade!
