Top Fantasy Pitchers
The Marlins are devoid of talent at the MLB level, so it's no surprise to not see many of their players on the ADP list.
Sandy Alcantara is the first pitcher (and player) from Miami to crack the list. He's not off draft boards until pick 159.63 on average. Alcantara is the only Miami pitcher going in standard league draft rounds so far.
Alcantara missed the entire 2024 season after having Tommy John surgery. He's expected to be ready to go right away this regular season.
Alcantara was special in 2022, going 14-9 with a 2.28 earned run average and striking out 207 batters over 228 2/3 innings. In 28 starts in 2023, Alcantara went 7-12 with a 4.14 ERA and 151 punchouts over 184 2/3 innings.
He's most likely going to fall somewhere between those two seasons, but based on his ADP, most fantasy owners are expecting more of the same from 2023, not a bounce back to 2022.
The best thing about Alcantara is his ADP. That late in a standard league draft, you're not taking on much risk by selecting him. If he struggles, you can drop him and your team isn't going to be hurt all that much. I feel there's a better chance for him to outplay that ADP. I don't think he'll be an elite fantasy pitcher on a terrible Miami team, but he could at least be a season-long keeper who you can trust every time he's starting.
Drafting Alcantara to help round out your fantasy rotation is a fine pick in my eyes. If he goes undrafted in your league, keep a very close eye on his first few starts to see if he's worth picking up maybe.
Other Starting Options
According to FanGraphs, Ryan Weathers, Edward Cabrera, Max Meyer and Cal Quantrill are the other projected starting pitchers for the Marlins.
Calvin Faucher is the team's projected closer. Jesus Tinoco and Anthony Bender are the pitchers likely to set up Faucher, while Declan Cronin, Anthony Veneziano, Lake Bachar and Ronny Henriquez are the other projected bullpen arms. Connor Gillispie is the projected long reliever.
Braxton Garrett and Eury Perez are other starting pitchers who will open the season on the 60-day injured list. Andrew Nardi is an injured reliever.
Weathers had some success in 2024 across 16 starts.
He went 5-6, but with a 3.63 ERA. Weathers struck out 80 batters over 86 2/3 innings. I think he's a safer deep-league draft pick this season, but could be a standard league streamer from the start of the regular season.
Cabrera made 20 starts for Miami last season.
He went 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA. Cabrera struck out 107 batters over 96 1/3 innings. He's another deep-league option to start the season, but in favorable matchups, that higher strikeout mark could make him a decent streaming option.
Meyer was cautiously used in 2024, only getting 11 starts.
He started the year strong, but ended up going 3-5 with a 5.68 ERA. Meyer had 46 strikeouts over 57 innings. He's another deep-league option, but one to keep an eye on in case he pitches like he did at the start of 2024.
Quantrill comes to the Marlins from the Rockies, where he spent the 2024 season.
In 29 starts last season, Quantrill went 8-11 with a 4.98 ERA. He had 110 strikeouts over 148 1/3 innings. He's another deep-league option to start the regular season, and might top out as one.
Garrett will not pitch in 2025. Perez is expected back in the middle of the season.
Perez was a bright and promising young pitcher before the injury. In 19 starts in 2023, he went 5-6, but with a 3.15 ERA. He struck out 108 batters over 91 1/3 innings.
Perez is a great dynasty/keeper asset at under 22 years old yet. He'll be an option in all leagues when he's back on the MLB mound, so keep close tabs on his recovery and return timeline.
Faucher obviously is an intriguing fantasy asset as a closer, but on a bad team, he's likely not going to be that good of an option. He's worth grabbing in deeper leagues, but I'd skip him in standard leagues.
Not many other members of the bullpen are going to be even decent fantasy assets, unless they join the rotation or take over the closer role.
Top Prospects
With a lack of talent at the MLB level, several prospects in Miami could make a difference in 2025.
Thomas White (No. 41) and Noble Meyer (No. 84) are top-100 prospects, but a couple years from debuting probably. Both have 2026 ETAs.
Robby Snelling and Adam Mazur are the only top-30 pitching prospects of the team who have 2025 ETAs.
White was a 2023 draft pick of the Marlins. In 100 1/3 minor league innings so far, he has a 2.96 ERA. White also has 127 punchouts, just 44 walks and a .238 average against him as well.
Meyer was also a 2023 draft pick. In 85 minor league innings so far, he has a 4.02 ERA. Meyer also has 100 strikeouts, 62 walks and just a .178 average against him.
Snelling was a 2022 draft pick of the Padres, but was traded to Miami in the Tanner Scott trade. In 46 minor league starts, Snelling has a 3.58 ERA, 233 strikeouts, 79 walks and a .254 average against him. He has covered 219 innings so far.
Mazur was also part of that trade. He made eight starts for San Diego last season, going 1-3 with a 7.49 ERA. In 189 1/3 minor league innings, Mazur has a 3.76 ERA, 182 punchouts, 35 walks and a .257 average against him.
Valente Bellozo covered too many innings to be considered a prospect anymore. In 13 big league starts, he went 3-4 with a 3.67 ERA. Bellozo struck out 44 batters over 68 2/3 innings.
Dax Fulton, Luarbert Arias, Dale Stanavich, Christian Roa and Josh Ekness are some other pitchers age 25 or below who are in big league camp with the Marlins this season.
