Yesterday, I started the fantasy baseball team preview series by looking at hitters from the Chicago White Sox.

It was rough, but it's something I'll be doing for every team, regardless if there's 50 or barely any fantasy players to look out for. Let's now look at some pitchers from the White Sox (I promise this one is a bit better).

Other Starting Options

While I like the White Sox's pitchers more than their hitters, there's no Chicago pitchers currently on the ADP list here at FantasySP.

According to FanGraphs, the current projected starting rotation is Martin Perez, Jonathan Cannon, Davis Martin, Sean Burke and Bryse Wilson.

Shane Smith is the long reliever out of the bullpen, while Justin Anderson is projected to be the closer. Other relievers include Fraser Ellard, Prelander Berroa, Gus Varland, Cam Booser, Jared Shuster and Tyler Gilbert.

Ky Bush and Jesse Scholtens are a couple injured pitchers who could eventually factor in.

There's not a lot of notable names in that bunch, but someone has to cover innings, and a few will turn into decent fantasy assets.

Perez was the top fantasy performer in points leagues a season ago, but that came with the Pirates and Padres. He signed with the White Sox this offseason, which definitely lowers his fantasy outlook, but also gives him a great chance at sticking in the rotation, and he could eventually become a trade piece if he's pitching well enough.

Perez has a career 4.44 earned run average, so he's mostly been just a deep-league option for his career. He could cover enough innings to be a decent deep-league option again in 2025, and if he ever gets in a groove, he could be streamable in standard leagues.

Wilson was the next best fantasy performer last season. He got his numbers in nine starts and 34 games with the Brewers.

He has a career 4.61 ERA, but was at 4.04 last season, and 2.58 the year before that. Unfortunately for Wilson, he's the next oldest member of the rotation after Perez, and could be squeezed out of the rotation when/if a prospect is ready to debut. Wilson is a very deep league option to begin the season, but is at least worth keeping tabs on in case he excels with a starting role to begin the year.

Cannon scored the next-most fantasy points last season. He made 21 starts across 23 games pitched for the White Sox.

He had a 4.49 ERA and a 5-10 record across 124 1/3 innings. Cannon struck out 91 batters. He was one of the better prospects in the team's minor league system, so maybe after getting a little taste of the MLB last season, he can take his game to the next level in 2025. He's another deep-league option to begin the season though.

Davis Martin made 10 starts across 11 games pitched in 2024. He went 0-5 with a 4.32 ERA, while striking out 47 over 50 innings. Martin is another starter to keep an eye on, but I doubt he ever becomes more than a deep-league option.

Burke looked good in his very short MLB stint last season. He went 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA across 19 innings in three starts and four games. Burke struck out 22 batters along the way.

We'll see how he handles the rigors of a full MLB season, but he might have the most fantasy upside of the team's projected rotation.

A closer on potentially the worst team in the league is not a great fantasy asset, but Anderson is at least worth keeping tabs on. He had a 1-2 record and 4.39 ERA across 56 games with the White Sox last season. Anderson has just six saves in his career, which began in 2018-19, but just got revamped in 2024. He does average more than a strikeout per inning, so there's a little upside at least if he can lower his ERA.

I don't see many other members of the bullpen, or injured list, who could really be big-time fantasy assets in 2025. On a bad team though, everyone is at least worth keeping tabs on, because someone has to cover innings, and someone could surprise with their performance.

Top Prospects

There's a glimmer of hope in the team's top pitching prospects.

Noah Schultz is the top prospect at No. 16 on the top-100 list. Hagen Smith is No. 34, but probably won't debut until at least 2026.

Schultz has a 2.03 ERA across 33 minor league starts the past two seasons. He has 153 strikeouts over 115 1/3 innings. You can see why he's a top-end prospect going into 2025.

He ended the 2024 season in Double-A, so he likely needs a few AAA starts before being considered for a callup. An injury, or a big spring from Schultz, could change that though. Keep Schultz in mind, especially after he gets called up.

Smith pitched at High-A last season, so that's why he isn't expected to debut until 2026. He only got 7 2/3 innings in as well, but is highly regarded after being selected fifth overall in last year's draft.

Looking back at the team's top prospects to end 2024, because the team's top-30 list for 2025 hasn't been released yet, there's several names to at least keep an eye out for.

Mason Adams, Jairo Iriarte, Wikelman Gonzalez, Nick Nastrini, Juan Carela and Bush all were in Triple-A or the big leagues when the 2024 season ended.

Iriarte pitched six MLB innings across six games last season. He was 0-1, with a 1.50 ERA, six punchouts and eight walks. The .143 average against him is noteworthy, but if he isn't starting at the MLB level, it will be hard for him to make a difference. I've read he could also maybe close if starting games doesn't work out for him, and that could definitely happen given the state of the White Sox right now.

Adams has a 3.09 ERA across 35 starts and 49 games in 233 career minor league innings. He has 239 strikeouts along the way, so there's definitely reason to be hopeful with Adams. A big spring, or injury, could help Adams land a big league roster spot for the start of the regular season.

Bush went 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA across four MLB starts last season. Opponents hit .290 off him, and he walked more guys (16) than he struck out (11). He's worth keeping tabs on at least, but aside from a little strikeout upside, I don't see much that fantasy owners should be excited about.

Gonzalez was included in the Garrett Crochet trade this offseason. He's yet to make his MLB debut, and has a 3.97 ERA across 392 1/3 minor league innings. His 491 strikeouts really stand out, but his 210 walks are also alarming. Gonzalez could end up as a reliever if starting doesn't work out.

Nastrini made eight starts across nine MLB games in 2025. He went 0-7 with a 7.07 ERA. He walked 36 batters and struck out just 26. Nastrini could put it all together at some point, but his first test was failed miserably.

Carela has a career 4.39 ERA in the minor leagues, but he's been at 3.75 or lower the past two seasons. He has 460 punchouts over 403 2/3 innings, so he's another potential reliever if starting doesn't work out for him.

Grant Taylor, Peyton Pallette and Eric Adler are some other pitching prospects who are non-roster invitees at training camp and worth keeping in the back of your mind.
