Rashod Bateman & Michael Thomas Will Miss The Rest Of The NFL Season With Foot Injuries

Mark Morales-Smith Nov 3rd 5:57 PM EDT.

News just broke that injury-plagued seasons for two star wideouts have come to end due to foot injuries. It’s been reported that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman and New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas’s season has come to end due to foot injuries. Both will require surgery, but both hope to be ready for training camp next season. Bateman will undergo a Lisfranc surgery and ends the season with just 15 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas will have surgery on his toe and finishes with 16 catches for 171 yards and three TDs. A disappointing ending for two wideouts who have become no strangers to injuries.

Fantasy Impact: Rashod Bateman, Baltimore Ravens

Bateman’s injury immediately catapults WR Devin Duvernay into Flex consideration. He’s been the clear WR2 to Bateman this year when he’s healthy. We’ve seen them find creative ways to get him the ball both downfield, on screen, and in the rushing attack. His four TDs also lead this WR corps as do his 24 receptions and 313 receiving yards. If he’s on your waivers he’s worth an add in 12-team leagues.

Demarcus Robinson now slides into the WR2 role in Baltimore. He actually led the Ravens with eight targets last week. That is more than likely an aberration though. You should expect him to be safely behind Duvernay when it comes to fantasy value. However, he is worth monitoring.

For the rest of the Ravens’ pass-catchers. James Proche could see a bit of a bump and become a potential DFS dart-throw option. Once Mark Andrews returns Isiah Likely may now retain some relevancy, and the obvious most intriguing option is the return of DeSean Jackson who is expected to be active for Week 9. D-Jax is likely to be a lot more bust than boom at his current age, but he may still have a little bit more boom left in those legs.

Fantasy Impact: Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints

Thomas hasn’t played since Week 3 so not much will change for the Saints. Nonetheless, the big winner here is Chris Olave owners. They no longer have to look over their shoulders and check injury reports worrying about how MT’s return will impact Olave’s production. He is now a locked and loaded every-week starter. You should view him as a strong WR2 with WR1 upside for the rest of the season.

This is also good news for the tight ends. We should continue to see Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill utilized due to the lack of weapons in the passing attack without Thomas. The rest of the wideouts should be considered desperation dart throws any given week. Tre’Quan Smith will probably be targeted like the WR2 in this offense from here on out. However, Rashid Shaheed has emerged as an option with big play upside. He’s had a play of at least 30 yards in three-straight games. Marquez Calloway can be confidently ignored as well as any other pass-catcher on this roster.
