Former Cowboys Superstar Ezekiel Elliott to be Released: Dominant RB Eyes AFC During Free Agency!
The Dallas Cowboys have some significant roster moves to make before this season begins. More importantly, according to experts, in a surprising move, Ezekiel Elliott has played his last game as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. While nothing has been made official, there is a strong sense that he will be released after June 1. With the move, Dallas is expected to save $11 million towards the cap.
A powerful and elusive runner, Elliott reached the 1000-yard plateau in 4 of 7 seasons with the Cowboys. He instantly became a favorite of Jerry Jones, and the rest of the ownership group after getting drafted. In his rookie season, he recorded his best season of 1631 yards. Last season he rushed for 876 yards to go along with 12 scores. However, he seemed to have lost a step and was not the same game-breaker he was earlier in his career. That appeared to be the case, as he was only able to break free of runs of 10 yards or more on just 17 of 254 rush attempts. By losing his decisiveness and explosiveness, the Cowboys were able to witness the emergence of Tony Pollard.
Tony Pollard rushed for 1007 yards in 16 games, and never looked back after getting the bulk of the carries as the season progressed. More recently, the Cowboys management elected to place the franchise tag on Pollard, knowing very well that the time has come to move on from Ezekiel Elliot who may be past his prime, and could benefit from a change in scenery. In 103 games with the Cowboys, Elliott recorded 8262 yards and 80 touchdowns.

2023 Ezekiel Elliott Fantasy Football Outlook
Many believe that it won't be too long before Ezekiel Elliot finds a home for the 2023 season. That appears to be the case, as league executives are well aware of what he can accomplish when he is motivated and healthy. More importantly, a change in scenery and a reason to prove himself could spark the same performance he delivered during his rookie season.
It is speculated that Elliot is expected to bring his talents to the AFC and join the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, or the Los Angeles Chargers. That appears to be the case, as the Dolphins would very much welcome a veteran presence such as Elliot in the backfield. Recently, the Dolphins resigned Mostert to a 2-year deal, after having a wondering season by rushing for 891 yards on 181 carries, while also having 31 catches for 200 yards. By having Elliot and Mostert in the backfield, coach McDaniel will be able to form a running back by committee, and have distinguished roles keeping both running backs healthy during a long enduring season.
The Chargers seem to be in desperate need of a running back as lead back Austin Ekeler has obtained permission to seek a trade. By moving Ekeler, there will be a gaping hole large enough that only Ezekiel Elliot will be able to fill. That appears to be the case, as the Chargers would need not only his experience but his veteran leadership skills as well to mentor the other young running backs, Joshua Kelly they have on the roster so that they can become proven talents as well.
The Bengals are also in desperate need of a running back. That appears to be the case, as they lost Samaje Perine to Denver Broncos during free agency, and are expected to move on from RB Joe Mixon due to his off-field troubles. This would allow Elliot to step in and be the lead back from the start, and prove to be a mentor for the other players on offense. More importantly, joining the Bengals, will prove to be Elliot’s best chance to win a Super Bowl and be able to prove to the Cowboys that he is still a dominant player, with plenty left in the tank!
