Week 16 Fantasy Football RB and WR Droppables: Should you drop Najee Harris, Derrick Henry, Brandin Cooks, and More?
Running back and wide receivers to drop to the waiver wire for Week 16
The fantasy playoffs are finally here! And that makes waiver moves even more important than ever as we get into a potential one-and-done situation. But in order to make ads, you need to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.
As we do every week, let’s take a look at some of the most widely dropped quarterbacks and tight ends for Week 16 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy. Week 16 Fantasy Football Droppables
Najee Harris, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
I get it. You probably drafted Harris in the third or fourth round with the expectation that he'd progress like the first-round NFL Draft pick he was. However, that really just hasn't happened, and I think we'd be doing ourselves a disservice to start him in the fantasy playoffs. If you're in a deep league that has a lot of starting spots, then you might just have to do it. Otherwise, you're starting a guy who is basically splitting carries and putting up single-digit fantasy points. While Harris had a nice run during the middle of the season, he hasn't scored a touchdown in his last three games and isn't seeing much work in the passing game. His floor is limited due to his lack of passing work, and his ceiling is limited due to this splitting touches. He hasn't hit 100 rushing yards in a game all season and is way too risky for the fantasy playoffs.
Verdict: Drop
Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans
Ok, so maybe this is a little crazy, but the Titans are officially out of the playoff hunt and Henry was openly talking about the end of his Titans' career after their loss on Sunday. Is it time to cut bait? Not so fast, my friends. The big guy is still seeing 15-plus carries and even caught the ball four times against the Texans, so I don't think we can cut bait with him just yet. The Seahawks are also really bad against the run, so there's some hope for Henry this weekend. Don't jump ship just yet.
Verdict: Hold
Brandin Cooks, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Cooks is still seeing 5-7 targets per game, but his production has dropped precitpitously as of late. He's caught just four passes total over his last two games and hasn't caught more than four balls in a game since Week 10. He's salvaged a few weeks with a touchdown, but this isn't the time to be playing touchdown-dependent players. While we should see the Cowboys air it out to keep up with the high-flying Dolphins, Cooks is way too unreliable to be in your fantasy lineup for Week 16.
Verdict: Drop
Jahan Dotson, RB, Washington Commanders
Sam Howell's 102 passing yards limited any Commanders pass-catcher upside last week, and Dotson's upside is specifically limited as he's seemingly taken a step back behind Curtis Samuel in the receiving pecking order. While Dotson is a solid player with long-term potential, we're looking for short-term production and he's coming off a game where he saw just one target. He's also going up against a good Jets secondary this week and shouldn't come anywhere near your starting fantasy roster. Time to move on.
Verdict: Drop
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
While Doubs has put together a solid season, he's much too risky to put in your starting lineup this week. While he's seeing consistent 4-6 target usage each week, he hasn't done a whole lot recently as players like Jayden Reed and Tucker Kraft have demanded more targets. Doubs hasn't caught more than five balls in a game since Week 4 (and he's caught less than five in every week since then besides one) and hasn't scored in four straight games. I like Doubs as a flex play in deeper leagues with a lot of starting spots, but he's nothing more than a desperation play in most leagues. He's not an auto-drop, but I wouldn't twist yourself into a pretzel to keep him on your roster either.
Verdict: Drop
