Week 6 Fantasy Football WR/TE Snap & Target Report: Chris Godwin Over Mike Evans? Could Jerry Jeudy, Devaughn Vele and Noah Brown Become Good Fantasy Assets?

Morgan takes a look at important usage numbers for fantasy football pass catchers coming out of Week 6.

Week 6 is in the books and all the stats have been processed, so now it’s time to go over some notable usage numbers.

We’ll start with pass catchers in this article and then discuss running backs in a separate story. All numbers are pulled from the FantasySP Target, Touch, Snap, & Redzone Leaders page.

Target Leaders

Only 10 pass catchers had 10 or more targets this past week.

CeeDee Lamb led the way with 14 targets, but he made just seven grabs for 89 yards. He played 49 snaps, so to see Lamb get that many targets is exactly what his fantasy owners are hoping for the rest of the season.

Chris Godwin was second with 13 targets. He made 11 grabs for 125 yards and two touchdowns. He’s gone from a solid No. 2 option behind Mike Evans to one of the top receivers in the game this season. Start him every week until his production fizzles out.

Wan'Dale Robinson, DK Metcalf and Darius Slayton had 11 targets each.

Robinson and Slayton were more involved with Malik Nabers out with his concussion. Robinson made five catches for 50 yards, while Slayton had 57 yards on six grabs. Those two would remain solid PPR options in all leagues if Nabers continues to sit out.

Metcalf made just three catches for 48 yards. It ended in another below-average fantasy outing for Metcalf, which has happened in half of his six games this season. He’s still a good starting option because of the consistent targets and his upside in general.

Diontae Johnson, Drake London, Garrett Wilson, Brock Bowers and Evan Engram all finished with 10 targets in week 6.

Johnson made six grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown. He continues to be heavily involved in the Panthers’ offense, and Johnson remains a good starting option in all leagues because of it.

London made six catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. He and Kirk Cousins have established a good connection, and he’s at least posted average fantasy numbers in every game but week 1. Continue to start London every week.

Wilson made eight grabs for 107 yards and a touchdown. He and Aaron Rodgers appear to be more on the same page now, but the presence of Davante Adams definitely could change how much Wilson is targeted, so that’s something to watch as time passes.

Bowers went for 71 yards on nine receptions. Bowers has 22 targets over the past two games, and should remain heavily involved now that Adams is no longer in Vegas. He’s a must start at a weak fantasy TE position.

Engram returned from an injury and immediately went for 102 yards on 10 catches. Engram had a monster season in 2023, and could return to that kind of fantasy player this season as the Jaguars continue to play from behind a bunch.

Snap Leaders

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Godwin and Metcalf all topped 70 snaps in week 6.

JSN had five receptions on nine targets, but for only 53 yards. He continues to play a bunch of snaps, and that alone is helping him be a decent fantasy asset. He’s a flex option in standard leagues, but a more confident start in deeper leagues.

The high snap count for Godwin just shows how great of a fantasy option he is right now. Even if his production tails off, because he’s playing so many snaps, he’s a better fantasy asset than probably a bunch of your other wideout options.

Metcalf also is playing a bunch of snaps, so even though his production has been a bit inconsistent, it’s hard to not start him.

Slayton played 68 snaps this past week, while Robinson had 64. It will be interesting to see how their playing time and usages are affected when Nabers is back, but New York should be trailing enough to make Slayton and Robinson decent fantasy options every week.

London was at 67 snaps, giving yet another reason to get him in your starting lineup every week.

Cade Otton played 62 snaps in week 6. He’s on this list just about every week, which gives him some decent fantasy value. Otton’s production as a pass catcher has been spotty though, and he had just 15 yards on two catches and six targets this week - a touchdown bailed out the fantasy owners who started him.

Wilson and Tyler Lockett each logged 61 snaps this week.

Wilson should continue to log a ton of snaps, but his production might simply drop with Adams around.

Lockett has to deal with Metcalf and Smith-Njigba, so that hurts his fantasy potential. Lockett had 65 yards and a touchdown on four catches and eight targets this past week. He’s been a better fantasy performer than JSN, which makes him a better flex option in standard leagues, at least for now.

Keep an Eye On

Pittsburgh receivers and tight ends haven’t had consistent success with Justin Fields throwing to them, but with Russell Wilson maybe taking over as the starter, things could swing in the pass catchers’ favor.

George Pickens has led the team in targets, and most receiving statistics this season, but has a bit higher upside with a better passer throwing to him. He started in about 63% of leagues in week 6, and that number could grow starting this week if Wilson makes the start.

Pat Freiermuth could find a little more success at the tight end position with Wilson back there. Calvin Austin tied his season high with five targets last week, and could be that involved, or more, weekly, so he’s a name to track.

After Amari Cooper was traded to the Bills, that opens the door for some Cleveland pass catchers to step up.

Tight end David Njoku and wideout Jerry Jeudy seem like the two most likely players to benefit from the trade. Elijah Moore and Cedric Tillman have also been playing a decent amount of snaps, and should be headed for more playing time and targets without Cooper around, so keep an eye on them.

Houston’s Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs had big fantasy showings in the first game without Nico Collins, but Dalton Schultz also got eight targets and is a name to watch. He only went for 27 yards on four catches, but should remain pretty involved until Collins is back.

Jacksonville’s Gabe Davis got eight targets in week 6. He turned those into five catches, 45 yards and two touchdowns, which is great fantasy production, but the eight targets is the bigger takeaway for me. There’s a lot of pass catchers to feed in Jacksonville now with Engram back and Christian Kirk and Brian Thomas around, so we’ll have to see how things shake out from week to week.

Denver’s Devaughn Vele had six targets, four catches and 78 yards in week 6. He’s only played in weeks 1 and 6, but he’s delivered good numbers in those contests, and could become a decent fantasy asset with more good outings.

Washington’s Noah Brown had four catches on eight targets for 58 yards. Olamide Zaccheaus had 27 yards on four catches and six targets. The passing game in Washington needs more playmakers to stand up alongside Terry McLaurin, so at the very least, Brown and Zaccheaus are worth tracking to see if they can continue to stack up positive results.

Carolina’s Ja’Tavion Sanders had 49 yards on five catches and seven targets. The Panthers are looking for players to stand up alongside Johnson, and a young player like Sanders could definitely be that guy. Keep a close eye on him if you aren’t quite ready to add him yet.

Arizona’s Marvin Harrison Jr. is dealing with a concussion, so Trey McBride, Greg Dortch and Michael Wilson could be solid starting/streaming options until Harrison is back.
