Maikel Garcia battles hand soreness and a cold stretch as Royals embark on road trip

Maikel Garcia has hit a rough patch, batting just .100 over his last three games after exiting a matchup on June 16th with left hand soreness. His cold spell comes as the last-place Royals (32-46) struggle to gain momentum at the bottom of the AL Central. Despite the nagging hand issue, he remains Kansas City's everyday starter at third base and is vital to a lineup already missing key pieces.

Over the last month, Garcia is batting .265 but has hit zero home runs and swiped only one bag. This represents a significant power outage and a drop in speed compared to his 26-stolen base season projection and his career-best .287 average from 2025. While his metrics should normalize once his hand is fully healed, he is currently a major regression risk in fantasy lineups.

The Royals play seven road games this week, starting with a four-game series against the Rays before visiting the White Sox. Garcia faces a tough draw early in the week against Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen (2.59 ERA) and Shane McClanahan (3.33 ERA). With his injury recovery ongoing and his bat cold, the smart move is to Sit him this week.
