Seth Lugo looks to steady the ship for the Royals despite recent ratio struggles.

Seth Lugo continues to serve as the staff anchor for the fourth-place Royals, who enter the week riding a two-game winning streak with a 27-39 record. While Lugo reached a milestone with his 1,000th career strikeout in May, his recent form has been rocky, posting a 5.12 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over his last 30 days. He remains locked into the front of Kansas City's rotation, especially with rotation mate Cole Ragans currently sidelined on the injured list.

Despite his recent struggles, our models remain optimistic about a rest-of-season bounce-back. Lugo’s 5.12 ERA over his last five starts is a clear outlier compared to his projected rest-of-season 3.96 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. Given his track record of eating innings and maintaining solid control, expect his ratios to gravitate back toward his career norms as a reliable mid-rotation stabilizer.

Lugo is scheduled for a single home start on Wednesday against the Rangers. He will square off against MacKenzie Gore, who enters with a 4.23 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Though Texas can be dangerous, Lugo's ability to limit walks and go deep into games makes him a viable option this week. Start.
