Hunter Greene continues rehab from elbow surgery with a mid-July return in sight

Hunter Greene has not played recently as he continues to recover from arthroscopic elbow surgery to remove bone chips. He remains on the 60-day injured list with a target return of mid-July. Without their frontline starter, the fifth-place Reds (37-39) are trying to keep pace in the NL Central while Andrew Abbott headlines the active starting rotation.

When healthy, Greene has shown elite form, posting a stellar 2.80 ERA in 2024 and a 3.12 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP in 2025. While our models originally projected him for a 3.49 ERA and 140 strikeouts over 170 innings, his delayed start limits his overall seasonal volume. Still, his high-strikeout baseline makes him a premier stash.

Cincinnati has matchups against the Brewers and Pirates this week, but Greene will sit out all of these contests as he works his way back. He is not scheduled for any starts and has a projection of zero fantasy points this week. Fantasy managers should keep him tucked away in an IL slot; the definitive verdict for this week is to Sit.
