The fantasy football season is about to get underway. There’s no true waiver wire options for the week because there were no real football games last week, so I’m improvising a bit with this article.

I’m going to use our week 1 projections and then identify players with a lower own percentage to possibly target for week 1 starts. We’ll target quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

Use the FantasySP projections page to identify possible streaming options every week. The top waiver wire options can also be found on FantasySP every day. Explore the best in-season fantasy football tool to manage lineup/start decisions including predictive waiver analytics to help prioritize waiver pickups, projections, auction values, trade suggestions, trade value charts, rest of season rankings, power rankings and tons more with Fantasy Assistant. Use our fantasy football trade analyzer and trade value charts to break down trade scenarios.

Quarterback Options

Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff, Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence are the top three quarterback options.

Goff is owned in about 81% of fantasy leagues, but starting in just 28% of them. He gets a week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

Goff is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while completing 67.3% of his passes.

He faced off against the Rams in the postseason. Goff completed 22 of his 27 passes for 277 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Tagovailoa is rostered in nearly 89% of leagues, but started in just 31% of them. He faces the Jaguars in week 1.

Tagovailoa threw for 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions a season ago, while completing 69.3% of his passes. The Dolphins and Jaguars did not meet in 2023.

Lawrence is rostered in 74% of leagues and starting in just 16%.

In 16 games last season, Lawrence completed 65.6% of his passes for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Running Back Options

Carolina Panthers’ Chuba Hubbard and New England Patriots’ Antonio Gibson are a couple running backs worth considering.

Hubbard is rostered in 84% of leagues and starting in 15% of them. He takes on the New Orleans Saints in week 1.

Hubbard should serve as Carolina’s RB1 while Jonathon Brooks works his way back from injury. Hubbard had 902 rushing yards and five scores on 238 attempts last season. He added 233 receiving yards on 39 catches and 44 targets, but didn’t score.

In one game against the Saints last season, Hubbard had 16 rushing yards on two carries, while adding 34 receiving yards on five catches and targets. In the other game, Hubbard had 87 rushing yards on 23 attempts, while adding nine receiving yards on two catches and targets.

Gibson is rostered in 45% of leagues and only starting in 1%. He and the Pats take on the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

Gibson has spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Commanders. He rushed for 265 yards and a score on 65 rushes in 2023, while adding 389 receiving yards and two scores on 48 receptions and 59 targets.

Gibson is set to serve as the backup to Rhamondre Stevenson, but still should be on the field plenty as the Patriots search for some playmakers.

Wide Receiver Options

Seattle Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett, Buffalo Bills’ Curtis Samuel, Detroit’s Jameson Williams, Cleveland Browns’ Jerry Jeudy and Los Angeles Chargers’ Joshua Palmer are all projected for 10 or more fantasy points in PPR leagues.

Lockett (81% owned, 7% started) had 894 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 79 receptions and 122 targets in 17 games last season. He’s rostered in 81% of leagues and starting in just 7% of them. The Seahawks battle the Denver Broncos in week 1.

Samuel (72% owned, 4% started) appeared in 16 games for the Commanders in 2023. He had 62 receptions on 91 targets for 613 yards and four touchdowns. Samuel added 39 yards and a touchdown on seven rushing attempts. Samuel and the Bills battle the Arizona Cardinals in week 1.

Williams (86% owned, 4% started) played in just 12 games last season. He had 354 receiving yards and two scores on 24 receptions and 42 targets. Williams added 29 yards and a score on three rushing attempts. Williams had 19 receiving yards on two catches and targets in the team’s playoff game against the Rams, which is who the Lions play in week 1.

Jeudy (72% owned, 5% started) was with the Broncos last season. In 16 games, he had 758 yards and two scores on 54 catches and 87 targets. Jeudy and the Browns battle the Dallas Cowboys in week 1.

Palmer (61% owned, 4% started) appeared in 10 games last season, making 38 catches on 61 targets. He went for 581 yards and two touchdowns. Palmer will face the Las Vegas Raiders in week 1 - he had 77 yards on three catches and eight targets in one game against the Raiders last season, and then had 113 yards and a touchdown on four grabs and targets in the other contest.

Tight End Options

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Cade Otton, Chicago Bears’ Cole Kmet and Seattle’s Noah Fant are three of the highest-projected fantasy TEs who are available in a bunch of fantasy leagues.

Otton is owned in just 16% of leagues and started in 2%. In 17 games last season, he had 455 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 47 receptions and 67 targets. The Bucs will face off with the Washington Commanders in week 1.

Kmet is rostered in 61% of leagues but started in just 13%. He had 719 yards and six touchdowns on 73 grabs and 90 targets last season across 17 games. The Bears battle the Tennessee Titans in week 1.

Fant is rostered in just 17% of leagues and started in 2%. He had 414 yards and no touchdowns on 32 catches and 43 targets last season across 17 games.
