Donovan Walton Rides a Torrid Power Surge Into Everyday Playing Time

Donovan Walton has taken full advantage of stepping in as the everyday third baseman for the Angels, a role solidified by Yoan Moncada and Anthony Rendon residing on the injured list. Over the last seven days, he has been incredibly hot, posting a .533 average with two home runs and six RBIs. His hot bat provides a spark for the last-place Angels, who sit fifth in the AL West with a 30-45 record.

While Walton's recent tear is a massive boon for fantasy managers, heavy regression is likely on the horizon. Our models project him to hit just .194 rest-of-season, aligning more closely with his career norms across prior major league stints. He is currently playing far above his historical baseline, making this hot streak a clear ride-it-out scenario rather than a long-term breakout.

For the remainder of the week, the Angels play four games against the Athletics. Walton will get plenty of opportunities against a vulnerable Oakland staff, including high-ERA pitchers like Jeffrey Springs (5.13 ERA) and Jack Perkins (6.52 ERA).
