Sam Aldegheri struggles with command as injuries keep him in the Angels rotation

The 24-year-old lefty currently slots in as a back-end starter for the fifth-place Angels, who sit at 30-45. Aldegheri has hit a rough patch over his last 14 days, posting a 7.00 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP over his last three appearances, culminating in a short, three-inning start against Arizona on June 17 where he allowed six earned runs. Despite the performance, long-term injuries to key starters Yusei Kikuchi and Grayson Rodriguez should keep Aldegheri in the major league rotation.

His recent struggles align closely with our season projection of a 5.35 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP over 37.0 innings. The young starter's primary issue is walk rate, having allowed 11 free passes in 19.3 innings this year. Because his minor league track record suggests he is still adjusting to big-league hitters, this high-ratio volatility is expected to continue rather than regress positively anytime soon.

Having just pitched on June 17, Aldegheri is not scheduled to make another start during the remaining games of this week's series against the Athletics. Because he has no further matchups this week and is hurting fantasy managers with high walks and ratios, he is not a viable option for active lineups right now. Verdict: Sit.
