Can Josh Allen Finish 2023 as the Fantasy QB2?
Allen is being drafted as the QB2 and rightfully so. While there are plenty of quarterbacks who can throw the ball better than Allen, his ability to run the ball separates him from the pack. If someone was to catch up to him it would most likely be Jalen HUrts if he continues to progress. There isn't a ton to think about here as the only quarterback who should be picked ahead of him is Patrick Mahomes and he's a no doubt top-three option. The only thing that could give us some hesitation is that the Bills have an absolutely brutal schedule playing everyone in the AFC East twice as well as the NFC East, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Denver Broncos. Despite the schedule being brutal, he's still at worst the QB3 for us.
James Cook is fools gold and the wrong back to target
James Cook is the first Bills running back to be drafted this season by a good margin. This is a mistake. Damien Harris will lead the Bills in both carries and rushing touchdowns this season. Going back to college his career high in carries is 113. The 190-pounder isn't going to suddenly be given 250 carries and be slammed between the tackles. The hope here is that Cook has a ton of PPR value, but again, including college his career high for receptions is 27 and the team didn't show much last year to lead us to believe he's going to be catching a ton of passes. What they did do is go out and trade for a better pass-catcher in Nyheim Hines who is still on the roster to add to an offense with a running quarterback who doesn't dump it off to his backs very often. Fade Cook as an RB3 and draft Harris at a great value. Harris may not be as explosive, but he's a better running back and is built for volume and touchdowns.
Stefon Diggs is the Bills only Reliable WR Fantasy Option
Bust may not be fair, nonetheless, Diggs is the only pass-catcher in Buffalo this season that you can count on for any kind of consistent production. We know Diggs will get as many targets as he can handle and finish as a top-five wideout. Somehow on a top offense with the fantasy QB2, he's the only weapon you can count on on a weekly basis. Gabe Davis is the second guy being drafted out of this WR corps. His current ADP has him being drafted as the WR42. This could be a bit low due to the fact that he burned so many people last season when he finished as the WR36 in PPG averaging single-digit fantasy points and still somehow being inconsistent after he was drafted as a low-end WR2. The fantasy community fell in love with him last offseason and he made everyone look silly. He could break out this season, but we are basing that off the same logic, we used last year of someone else having to catch passes besides Diggs. It didn't work last year so why would it this year? Behind Davis, it gets even worse with guys like Trent Sherfield and Khalil Shakir.
Tight End position battle between Knox & Dalton Kincaid
First-round pick Dalton Kincaid is currently being drafted as the TE15. We believe he will be an excellent option long term and you should go after him in dynasty leagues. However, this is too high for us in redraft leagues. Rookie tight ends rarely have a significant impact as rookies, even great ones. It's not impossible he bucks the trend but very unlikely. Then you add Dawson Knox into the mix who has been a productive player and signed a new deal with the team. Knox is only being drafted as the TE21 and he will most likely outperform Kincaid this season. If Knox was to be traded that could change our minds a bit, nevertheless, Kincaid is being overvalued and Knox may be a bit undervalued.
Buffalo Bills Breakout Player
There isn't anyone on this roster we see as a breakout player. If we had to pick someone, we'd have to say that maybe we are wrong and Davis or Kincaid break out this year. We don't expect it, but options are limited.
Buffalo Bills Fantasy Sleeper is Damien Harris
This one is much easier and it's Damien Harris. As we mentioned before, he will lead this team in carries and touchdowns. This team has been looking for a good running back for years and Harris is the best one Josh Allen has played with since breaking out a few years back. Harris is much better than Devin Singletary or any of the other backs that have tried and failed in Buffalo.
