Week 8 Fantasy Football QB and TE Droppables: Should you drop Matthew Stafford, Zach Ertz, and David Njoku?
We're always looking to make moves in fantasy football, and this is going to be a weekly spot where we look at some of the most widely-dropped players across fantasy leagues and decide whether you should (or shouldn’t) cut bait with them – due to either underperformance, injury, or otherwise.
We covered waiver adds already, but in order to pick up someone, you have to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.
Let’s take a look at some of the most dropped quarterbacks and tight ends for Week 8 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Droppables
Matthew Stafford, QB, Green Bay Packers
This one is a little tricky as it really depends on your league size, but Stafford is no longer an elite quarterback. He hasn't topped 16 fantasy points in a game all year and sits below players like Joshua Dobbs, Jordan Love, and C.J. Stroud on the year. While Stafford has some elite weapons around him, he's only thrown seven touchdowns all year and has offset any marginal success there by throwing six interceptions. The veteran has the potential to put up big games, but he just hasn't been doing it this season. Things don't get any easier this week either with a tough matchup against the Cowboys. It's time to move on unless you're in a superflex league or struggling to look for a bye week fill-in in a deep league.
Verdict: Drop
Joshua Dobbs, QB, Arizona Cardinals
Is Kyler Murray coming back? It sure looks like it. The Cardinals don't really have any reason to rush him back, but they've also never been accused of being a smart franchise either. While I would hold onto Dobbs in deeper leagues (and obviously in superflex leagues), I think we can safely drop him back to waivers if you need a spot. He hasn't been very good over the past few weeks with just 146 passing yards in his last game and is likely to lose his job within the next two or three weeks. With matchups against Baltimore and Cleveland up next, he shouldn't be in your starting lineup anyway.
Verdict: Drop
David Njoku, TE, Cleveland Browns
The Browns have been a mercurial team on offense as they've been snakebit with injuries to both Nick Chubb and Deshaun Watson. Njoku had his own injury when his face got burned, but he's been relatively solid if unspectacular. While he's yet to score a touchdown or top 54 receiving yards in a game all year, the arrow is pointing up here as he's seen 13 targets over his past two games and just put up his highest yardage total of the year in Week 7. With the tight end position being a bit of a dumpster fire, Njoku still holds value.
Verdict: Hold
Zach Ertz, TE, Arizona Cardinals
While there's a chance Ertz could see increased production once (if?) Kyler Murray returns, he's no more than a middling option right now. There's some value in that at the tight end position so he's not an automatic drop in deeper leagues, but the veteran hasn't put up more than 22 receiving yards in a game over the last three weeks and has found the end zone just once all year. Moreso, he's only seen a high of five targets over those past three games. I'd hang onto Ertz in deeper leagues, but I think it's safe to move on from him in most fantasy leagues.
Verdict: Drop
UPDATE: Ertz has been placed on IR with a quad injury and is worth keeping in your fantasy IR spot if possible. Otherwise, he remains a drop.
Jake Ferguson, TE, Dallas Cowboys
While things looked promising for a while, I don't think the Ferguson breakout is coming. I was holding out hope that he'd replicate Dalton Schultz's season for last year, but he only saw one target in his last game and has put up just four total catches for 43 total yards over his last two games and has scored just once (back in Week 2) all season. With Michael Gallup starting to get more involved in the Cowboys' offense, Ferguson is Dak Prescott's fourth receiving option at best and can be dropped to waiver wires in all but the deepest of fantasy leagues.
Verdict: Drop
