Week 9 Fantasy Football RB and WR Droppables: Should you drop Miles Sanders, Aaron Jones, and Christian Watson?
We're always looking to make moves in fantasy football, and this is going to be a weekly spot where we look at some of the most widely-dropped players across fantasy leagues and decide whether you should (or shouldn’t) cut bait with them – due to either underperformance, injury, or otherwise.
We covered waiver adds already, but in order to pick up someone, you have to drop someone. And that isn’t a decision you should take lightly. We’ve all made drops we’ve come to regret.
Let’s take a look at some of the most dropped running backs and wide receivers for Week 9 and decide if they’re actually drop-worthy.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Droppables
Miles Sanders, RB, Carolina Panthers
Things have not gone according to plan for the Panthers and Miles Sanders. The veteran was brought in as a free agent to help bring some consistency to the rebuilding Panthers, but Sanders is close to losing his job to Chuba Hubbard. While it's worth noting Sanders has been dealing with injuries, he carried the ball just twice this past weekend and hasn't seen more than 14 carries in a game since Week 1. Sanders has scored just once all season and hasn't put up more than 72 rushing yards in a game -- which came all the way back in Week 1. I wouldn't just outright drop Sanders as he should theoretically work his way back into the fold now that he's presumably healthy, but I'd actually be ok with dropping Sanders if you need the spot for a high-upside player and/or a bye week fill-in. The upside for Sanders just isn't there and he's probably nothing more than a flex option at best for the rest of the season.
Verdict: Drop
Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers
Jones is in a similar spot to Sanders in that he's been injured, but has also underproduced for most of the season when he's been healthy. With A.J. Dillon taking a share of the backfield touches in Green Bay, Jones has seen his upsided diminished. He hasn't put up double-digit fantasy points since Week 1 and has touched the ball 11 times a game over the past two weeks. That's backup usage, my friends. While I think Jones has a bit more upside than Sanders (which would make me lean toward keeping him), I'm going to call him a drop as well since I don't think you can really feel good about starting him on a weekly basis. If you need the spot or want to take a flier on a player who you might actually start this week, I'd be ok with dropping Jones.
Verdict: Drop
Jeff Wilson Jr., RB, Miami Dolphins
Wilson was a fun pickup a few weeks back with Devon Achane went down, but things haven't gone exactly as expected. Raheem Mostert has continued to have a stranglehold on the Dolphins backfield and Achane is inching closer to a return. To make matters worse, Wilson hasn't really done much to-date as he saw just seven touches this past weekend that went for 37 total yards. Wilson is a solid player, but he won't see enough opportunities to produce unless he's traded or unless the Dolphins suffer another injury (or setback witih Achane). We can feel ok with moving here.
Verdict: Drop
Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers
It seems like a lifetime ago when Watson was going in the top-50 of fantasy drafts. I'll cut to the chase and say that you shouldn't drop him just yet, but his production is certainly a lot closer to a waiver wire player than a startable fantasy asset. Watson hasn't caught more than three balls in a game all season and hasn't produced more than 33 receiving yards in a game all year outside of Week 5. All that said, he missed the first three weeks due to injury and is still seeing his fair share of targets (almost seven per game over the past three weeks). Watson is a bit of a boom-or-bust player and the big weeks should be on the horizon if you can stay patient.
Verdict: Hold
Tank Dell, WR, Houston Texans
Dell looked like he was on his way toward contending for Offensive Rookie of the Year through the first three weeks of the season, but he's fallen back down to Earth quite a bit over the past few weeks. Over his past three games, the rookie has caught just seven total passes on just 11 total targets. While he's still been involved in the Texans' offense with at least two carries in each of those three games, Dell's production just isn't going to cut it. He's an obvious hold in deeper leagues, but he can be dropped to waivers in shallower leagues if you need the roster spot.
Verdict: Drop
