It’s time to continue my dynasty baseball series where I rank the top players going into 2025.

We have covered shortstops, catchers, starting pitchers and outfielders so far, and will now be discussing second basemen.

Here are the links to the top-10 redraft rankings for 2025: third basemen, first basemen, closers, designated hitters, second basemen, shortstops, outfielders, catchers and starting pitchers.

1. Ketel Marte

Marte was my No. 1 fantasy second basemen in redraft leagues, and he holds the same spot in dynasty leagues.

In 136 games last season, Marte hit .292 and got on base at a .372 clip. He slugged 36 home runs and drove in 95 runs, while stealing seven bases and scoring 93 times.

Marte is in the prime of his career, and should be able to replicate last season’s numbers at least a time or two more. He’s simply so good right now that his age does little to affect his dynasty ranking.

I would try to only roster Marte with a contending dynasty team though. If you are rebuilding or retooling, you’d probably be better off selling Marte high.

2. Ozzie Albies

Albies is just 28, but has dealt with injuries over his career.

He played 156 games in 2021 before just 64 in 2022. Albies was on the field for 148 games in 2023, then just 99 last season. On a bright note, if he keeps up that up-and-down trend, he should be on the field a bunch this season.

Seriously though, when Albies is able to play a full season, or close to it, he’s one of the better fantasy hitters in the game. Getting to 30 home runs, 100 RBIs and runs scored, along with 15+ stolen bases is no issue.

He just hasn’t been healthy enough to trust him over Marte in the long run. Albies’ value is probably a bit down going into 2025, so if you have higher hopes for him going forward, you should probably be able to nab him later in dynasty drafts than a season ago, while not needing to give up nearly as much in a trade for him.

Albies would be another player I’d only roster if I was contending with my dynasty team.

3. Jackson Holliday

Holliday had an immense amount of pressure on him when he got to the big leagues last season. He wasn’t able to live up to the hype, and now there’s questions about his long-term ability.

In 60 games, Holliday hit just .189 - he did get on base at a .255 clip. He hit five home runs, drove in 23 runs, stole four bases and scored 28 runs. His 162-game averages are pretty solid, but they are rather underwhelming for a top prospect.

I’m not giving up on the 21-year-old Holliday after just one season. However, if he struggles again in 2025, I doubt he’ll be anywhere near my top-10 list for 2026.

He’ll likely hit near the bottom of the team’s order this season, and while that doesn’t afford him much fantasy value, what dynasty owners need to be looking for are improved numbers across the board. If he’s able to lock down the second base position and deliver better numbers, Holliday could contend for the top dynasty 2B spot going into 2026.

4. Matt McLain

I am a huge believer in McLain, and think his value is really low going into 2025. He’s 25 years old, but that makes him one of the younger fantasy 2B at the top end of the leaderboards.

He missed all of last season with injuries, which was a shame after his 89-game rookie showing. McLain had a .290 average, .357 OBP, 16 home runs, 50 RBIs, 14 stolen bases and 65 runs scored.

All you basically need to do to see what a full season at those numbers would be is double everything (minus the average and OBP). A final season line of 30 homers, 90+ RBIs, 20+ steals and over 100 runs scored is elite fantasy production.

Of course, he’s a risk after missing an entire season already, but I’m trying not to let that dissuade me when looking at McLain. A big season in 2025 will vault him to the tops of 2B rankings - for individual seasons and in dynasties.

5. Kristian Campbell

Let’s throw a prospect at you and talk about Campbell, the No. 1 second base prospect in the game.

He’s expected to debut this season, and can also play shortstop and in the outfield, so he has a few different ways to get to the big leagues. Campbell has a .327 average and .439 OBP across two minor leagues seasons, and he ended last season at Triple-A.

Across 137 games and 498 at-bats in the minors, Campbell has 21 home runs, 82 RBIs, 84 walks, 121 strikeouts, 27 stolen bases and 103 runs scored. He can do a bit of everything, and that’s why he’s got above-average grades for hit, power and run tools.

There’s not much good/great talent blocking Campbell from the major leagues, so I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets the call. I’m really excited to see if the 22-year-old can get to the MLB after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 draft.

6. Jose Altuve

Back to current major league talent with Altuve here. He’s 34 years old, but continues to produce, so he still is firmly inside my top 10.

In 153 games last season, Altuve had a .295 average and .350 OBP. He posted 20 home runs, 65 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and 94 runs scored.

At some point, you’d expect Altuve to slow down, but a high average and OBP should keep him relevant for several more years yet. I’d only roster him if I was contending, and I’d want to have a younger 2B behind him for whenever his falloff or retirement comes.

7. Travis Bazzana

Bazzana is another prospect. He’s expected to make his debut in 2025 for the Guardians after being drafted first overall in the 2024 draft.

The 22-year-old struggled in his first 27 games of High-A ball, but I’m trusting the scouting grades and guessing Bazzana eventually becomes a big-time fantasy star.

He could move way up, or completely out of, my top-10 list depending on how he performs this season. Let’s hope it’s up, because it’s always fun to see younger players make a good first impression.

8. Luis Garcia Jr.

I’m higher on Garcia than most, in redraft and dynasty leagues. He’s just 24 years old, but looks to be part of a young and talented Washington lineup for years to come.

In close to a full season last year (140 games), Garcia had a .282 average and .318 OBP, with 18 home runs, 70 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and 58 runs scored.

I think he hasn’t come close to his peak yet, but even his 162-game averages right now are pretty solid. He could slide several spots up with a big 2025 season.

9. Luke Keaschall

We’re back to the prospect list. Keaschall is the No. 4 2B prospect and expected to debut this season with the Twins.

Keaschall can also play first base and the outfield, so he’s also got multiple ways to reach the big leagues. He was drafted in the second round of the 2023 draft, and has combined for a .300 average and .419 OBP over 133 games and 490 at-bats in two minor league seasons.

Keaschall has 18 homers, 63 RBIs, 81 walks, 105 strikeouts, 34 stolen bases and 109 runs scored to his name. That looks like a future all-around fantasy star to me.

He’s got a really good chance to debut this coming season, but probably needs a touch more minor league seasoning with no AAA experience yet. The good news is there’s not good/great players blocking him at the MLB level, so when he’s ready, the team should have no issue giving him the call.

10. Luis Rengifo

Rengifo flies under the radar a bit, but has been good when healthy, and is 27 years old (nearly 28).

The big problem is he hasn’t played in more than 127 games in a single season. He has a career .253 average and .313 OBP, but had a .300 average and .347 OBP last season in 78 games.

His 162-game averages are around 15 home runs, 60 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and 65 runs, which is pretty solid fantasy production. Being with the Angels doesn’t really help his outlook, but it gives him a chance to star for the team, if he can stay on the field.

Don’t overlook Rengifo this season.

Honorable Mentions

There’s a number of other second basemen I could have included, especially as we got closer to No. 10.

Some guys close to the top 10 are: Marcus Semien, Nico Hoerner, Brendan Donovan, Brice Turang, Jonathan India, Gleyber Torres, Bryson Stott and Andres Gimenez.

Some others to keep an eye on are: James Triantos, Christian Moore, Adael Amador, Sal Stewart, Orelvis Martinez and so many other young and promising prospects.
