Braxton Ashcraft Shines in the Pirates Rotation with Impressive Strikeout Upside

Braxton Ashcraft has been excellent for the fourth-place Pirates (38-37), who are currently on a two-game winning streak. Over his last 30 days, the right-hand starter has posted a stellar 3.33 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 41 strikeouts across 35.1 innings. Ashcraft remains highly secure in his role as Pittsburgh's solid number three starter.

Ashcraft's current 3.24 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the season are significantly better than our projected rest-of-season model marks of a 3.89 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. His underlying metrics, including a high strikeout rate with 97 punchouts in 88.8 innings, suggest this breakout is sustainable. Expect him to continue providing strong ratios and strikeout upside.

With his lone start of the week already completed on June 17—a winning effort against Oakland—Ashcraft is not scheduled to pitch in the upcoming series against the Rockies. Because his weekly duties are finished, he can be benched for the weekend if you need active streaming spots, but he remains an elite long-term option. Weekly Verdict: Start.
