Tyler Callihan's historic debut spark makes him an intriguing stream as the Pirates head to Coors Field

Callihan has taken Pittsburgh by storm, hitting .313 with a historic two-homer debut and his first career triple over his first 14 major league games. The Pirates are currently 38-37 and riding a two-game winning streak. With key offensive pieces like Oneil Cruz sidelined on the injured list, Callihan has stepped up to earn playing time, despite currently sitting third on the depth chart in left field.

While his .436 on-base percentage and 1.061 OPS over 32 at-bats are incredibly exciting, our models suggest tempering long-term expectations. His career baseline and our projections forecast a more modest .224 average over a larger sample size. A high strikeout rate early on indicates that a cooling-off period is likely once major-league pitchers adjust to him.

Looking at the remainder of the week, the Pirates travel to Colorado for a highly favorable three-game series at Coors Field starting June 19.
